Not Iva But Registration...

Seems the most logical place to put the question.... :)

Working through the paperwork and process for the registration now that IVA has been passed.

One thing that wasn't clear is the new tax rules post April 2017. So I rang them up to ask what I would be paying for a "newly built kit car" (the V55/4 application process) because their website categorises as anything registered after April 2017... which clearly my car will be, but the engine is based on emmissions tests from much before that....

After much consulting on their part, the suggestion is that I now submit via the V55/5 process for a "radically altered vehicle" rather than a new kit build. Since I'm going to be on an age-related plate (from the donor car, the Exmo) I don't suppose this matters one bit but I just thought I'd double-check here...

Anyone any thoughts or reasons why a V55/5 approach is a bad thing to do? It would result in keeping the CC-based taxation of £245 per annum for PLG but I'm not missing some downside am I?

V55/5 is the correct way to go. DVLA terminology just confuses things, you have, according to DVLA, a Kit converted car, which is a kit of new parts added to an existing car or a oarts from a used car added to a kit of new parts, not a kit built car which is a a brand new set of parts supplied in kit form.

Ha, that's exactly why I rang them for advice! I asked precisely that, because the terminology says "newly-built kit cars". I said to her, is that "newly-built" as in a new, initial build of a kit car or "newly" as in made of entirely new parts? She said the former - clearly incorrectly. So much for clarity :)

Good, ok, well - V55/5 is the route I'm going down anyway now so that's all good. Thanks Stu!
