Alright all, might have a major problem, the cars been in the garage getting a new slave cylinder fitted, the mechanic said he had a hell of a fight getting the system bled and had to use the automatic bleeder. Well its likely been bleeding back through the pedal because I've just discovered tonight that the drivers side foot well is flooded with clutch fluid, the carpets are soaked and it's all over the fibre glass. Is there anything you can get to neutralize the fluid and will it damage the carpets and fibre glass?

Could do with some advice sharpish so I can get things sorted

As above - lots of hot soapy water - may be too late for the carpets - i suspect the carpet may start to disintegrate as the brake fluid will break down the carpet fibers and the weave will fail. Take it back to the garage - tell them you're not happy and see what they will do - new carpet set? Also i'd be concerned that if they used a pressure system to bleed the clutch and it leaked as you described - has it damaged the seals in the master cylinder?

Hope they sort it for you.

Cheers

Andy

If you are going to use a pressure bleeder then all your seals need to be in top condition. If one set needed replacing then it's likely the others would too. I was told years ago to replace them all at once as even bleeding them normally can force fluid out through old seals if you are using new seals else where. The path of least resistance. Mechanic should have thought about that. Good luck with the clean up.

Clean with a degreaser fluid. Brake fluid is hydroscopic so apsolutly any traces will absorb an amount of water forever. This will induce damp patches all over. It must must must be done properly. It also acts as an oxygenator which doesnt help.

It may need a quick sand and wash of gel coat on it.but still neefs cleaning off thoroughly first in any case.

What's a good degreaser to get, in the past I've actually used bacterial agents to neutralise oil spills but that was for kerosene on timber or concrete floors, I don't know what it would do to carpets.
