Shivers Up The Spine

Earlier today I heard the sound of very low approaching jets.

I got outside in time to see all 10 Red Arrows, in formation about 500 above

my house heading for Biggin.

I have just heard something far older,& far louder approaching.

Again, I rushed outside in time to see TWO Lancasters in formation, and a pair

of spitfires providing escort cover.

The noise was ground shaking......I can only imagine what a full blown raid would have sounded like.

It looks like they may be preparing for this...

Looks like they will be busy!!!

Guest Ian & Carole

Aren't we lucky living here in Lincoln, seen the Lancs. twice, since the one arrived from Canada, this week and can watch the Arrows practice most days.

The estate we live on was once a "Bomber Command" air base.

Trying to imagine a full squadron of Lancs. leaving here at night must have been out of this world.

It's a shame the new owner of Manston airfield (former RAF Manston) has shut the airport (& still one of the longest runways in Britain).

For the Eastbourne airshow the display aircraft all used Manston as their base in the past - every day was an airshow with the pilots practising their displays.

The Lancasters would have been a truly wonderful sight & sound - can only see them on the news now.........

I had maybe my best day at work yesterday.

I Took the mobile library up to Cudham (behind Biggin Hill airport) for the afternoon.

I saw both Lancs take off, presumably en route to Eastbourne, follwoed by 2 Spits and a Mustang,

then about 20 minutes later by the 10 Red Arrows again.

Then later that same afternoon, everthing returned.....!!

All my customers had to help themselves to books.....I was sat outside in a foldup chair!.

Then this morning while flying my tiddlers, both Lancs went over our flying field...& got a huge round of applause.

Both Lancasters and a vulcan will be flying at Little Gransden air show tomorrow. Show sold out online and there are no tickets available at the gate. Luckily I have my car booked in as an exhibit. Flying starts at one so keep an eye out if you are in the vicinity.

British design & engineering at its best....

We still have that expertise....IIRC Sir Norman Foster was the

chief architect for the Millau bridge...not that the French would admit that...

Just got back from little gransden, very crowded but as we got there early we got a good spot against the fence line. Fantastic to see the two lancasters together. The vulcan was brilliant too, I could feel the vibration through my feet, my wife said that was why she was sitting down! The series 7 went well too, it was good to get out in it again and I feel confident enough to just take it out and enjoy driving it rather than worrying about temps and strange noises. Got a petrol leak from either the sender, filler or breather pipe so I think the tank will have to come out sooner rather than later.
