Speedo Not Working

After removing front wheel to have puncture repaired my digital speedo has stopped working, I'm not sure if there should be some sort of pick up on inside rim of alloy to allow sensor on wishbone to transmit info to dash, all other functions (fuel, trip, water temp etc OK) can any one shed a little light on this - cheers harry

If all that's been moved is the wheel to have the puncture repaired then something must have been disturbed. Has the sensor on the wish bone moved at all. The positioning is important. Mine picks up of the prop shaft to diff flange and needs to the close to the bolt heads.

posible that sensor was picking up on balance weights (not a good idea) and these have been removed and replaced in slightly different position

unfortunatly putting somthing on wheel rim to trigger pick up will mess up wheel balance

If you still have the old abs ring on the hub they can be used but doubtful that would be disturbed by removing wheel.

Pick up on a wheel would be very strange to me.

What if you got a puncture and had to change the wheel

It could be a pick up on the wheel hub.

Is it a magnetic sensor or just proximity? The proximity one I have must be something like 2mm from the pick up so could just be a few mm out of position if its been moved.

Just a separate thought, should the speed sensor pick up from the driven wheels i.e. the rear? Sure that was something that was asked on my IVA test when setting up for the speed check...

Hi,

I have a front wheel pickup, and it only works when sensing attached magnets on the front hub as they whiz by (on the wheel studs in my case).

the sensor has to be very close to the magnets - like 2mm away.

I wonder if in disassembly you've knocked the magnets off.

If you want a 4 nice magnets (i got a box of 20), hit me with your address and i'll post them over to you.
