Dvla, Lost Post And Two Tax Discs !

Recommended Posts

Well well, an interesting day today :)

Post arrived and I was pleased to find that it contained all the missing original receipts that I had posted to the DVLA.

I thought that the Postal Service had found them and returned them to me.

Opening it though revealed something quite different.

It had actually come from the DVLA as, enclosed within, was ANOTHER plating certificate and a SECOND TAX DISC !

Odd, I thought - until I read the registration number - which was one letter DIFFERENT to the one I already have !

It seems like the DVLA had this all along yet swore blind that they hadn't received it

Question is - Do I send back the second tax disc for a refund ? ! :diablo:

i agree, you'll definitely be in the proverbial one way or another - untaxed, un-moted, uninsured!

not owned not insured not mot'd not in existence leave it and tet them come and collect it for crushing or better still get a plate made up for a scrap car so they can take it and you can stand there with a smile on your face.

Nice idea except the problem is that I now have two licence plates with the SAME VIN number, so obviously I don't want them taking THAT one :)

It will be interesting hearing what the DVLA have to say about this ! ("Would you like a refund Sir?" - would be nice :diablo: ! )

The Saga continues ...

I rang the DVLA to find out about this "Two Tax disc" problem and they said that it must have "crossed in the post" - yeah right :)

So I was told to write a letter and send back the extra tax disc. WHILE on the phone though, I was told that DVLA could not possibly issue a second registration with the same chassis number. He checked, and found that it HAD happened !

While writing the letter and sealing the envelope, the post arrived. Guess what ?

A SECOND LOG BOOK ARRIVED !

So I suppose I must be unique with "Two Log book, Two Tax disc Hoodie" for the SAME car !

Closer inspection revealed that the VIN number had been entered incorrectly on the second log book, mistaking 22 for ZZ

Makes this a most interesting car !

Computer systems are designed to be perfect and tested by a crack team of specialist testers  . Then they are put in the hands of the end users and that is where it all goes horribly wrong. The tester's then come back with things like "we didn't test for that as only an idiot would input that" or my favourite "it worked ok on my PC when I tested it".

As you say, Simon, let's see how they sort out this mess! You can guarantee that they won't have a process in place to sort it.
