Stolen?

Do kit cars ever get stolen?

I've never seen an online post on any forum mentioning it and a quick Internet search brings up nothing.

I ask because I'm at the electrics stage of my build and was wondering if it's worth building an immobiliser of some sort in.

Definitely worth putting an immobiliser in if you can. By their nature they are easier to steal than tin tops and people don't always steal them because they need them but just for the hell of it and if that is the case they generally set fire to them afterwards.

Yes they do get stolen.

I remember the other year a caterham getting stolen from some service station.

Immobiliser wouldnt have helped though.. It was on a trailer , and they nicked that too.

I would fit one though as they are much easier to steal than a tin top

I have a hidden master electrical switch,

and an even better hidden fuel pump switch,

and a motorcycle chain and padlock that goes between the

seat adjuster and the steering wheel.

It's immediately obvious, but tucks under the seat when not in use.

I thought it was an Insurence requirement these days.

I know flux asked if I had one fitted.

I have a master switch, a secret kill switch and a main immobiliser.

All fitted by previouse owner.

Agree my Superspec has immobiliser fitted by original owner, Car was built by GBS and when the owner went to insure the vehicle the insurance company refused cover until an immobiliser was fitted. He had it fitted by Uplands Radio in Swansea, it is a deterrent to all especially the Red Flashing Light.

Keep considering a removable steering wheel too but then you have to carry it with you or Bicycle Lock it into the car somewhere.

I saw a car stolen in broad daylight by travelling folk. They pulled up along side the target in a flatbed lorry, broke both windows with hammers passed a strop through the car and lifted it onto the truck with the lorry crane. Tarp over the car and off they went alarm blaring. Done in a couple of minutes.
