What Steering Rack

Does anybody know what the steering rack is from that was supplied with the 2b plus kit?

I bought the kit in 2002

I've got excessive play in the ball joint on one of my tie rods, so want to replace it and I don't know which one to buy.

Thanks

Paul

Apparently they are escourt mk3, with Sierra extensions.

Can't be more specific than this, or say it is true. I only know from what I have read on hear.

Edit.

I am working on one tomorrow with the guy who built it.

If I remember through my rapidly diminishing capabilities (old age) I will ask him for you.

Regards, Ken.

Yes Nick. That's quite true.

As stated earlier the modded escourt racks were fitted with Sierra control rods.

I don't know if they were a cut and shut job, or if the full rod could be fitted to the racks.

Paul, it might be best to search the forum for 2b steering rack, or similar.

Probably the correct answer to your original question will be there.

Thanks for all the advice.

Looks like I'll go for Escort tie rod, probably only the track rod end is Sierra. Ebay shop lookup says Sierra tie rod won't fit Escort rack.

Only £8.95 delivered so worth a risk anyway http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tie-rod-axle-joint-Ford-Escort-Orion-FTR4739-/321812015436?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4aed7da94c

Just to add to confusion it may not be an escort rack. depending on which they decided to use. What does it look like? my rack i have on my 2002 2b (with the optional wishbones) i have been told is a LHD? metro rack that was modified and flipped over. It came painted black and has a u bolt fixing the one end and a welded on flange/flat plate on the passenger side. Where the steering shaft connects it is splined and has a flat on one side for the bolt.

The TREs are definitely sierra and it came with extenders to change from the small diameter arms to the larger sierra thread (i had new ones engineered as i wasn't happy with the slop on the threads of the RH ones).

And mine was a standard Sierra rack that I had the lengthen when I did the wishbone conversion.

Pay attention everyone there will be a test later!
