Rwd Ecoboost

Has anyone had any experience or knows anything or anyone that has put an ecoboost into a rwd application.

I seen on web that Caterham have one courtousy of Ford, 1.6. So im thinking the 2.0 turbo ecoboost should too.

Web search doesnt give much away, any ideas?

Biggest issue is an ecu capable of controlling the direct injection if I remember correctly.

Electronics isnt a issue just yet. More concerned with can it fit to a Ford rwd box, mounting issues etc. For these reasons im heading towards the larger capacity versions as per mustang.

Gearbox, flywheel and clutch from, I believe, the third generation mx5 bolt straight up to it.

Thanks Duck. I think you may be correct there. USA sites indicate the same. There are companies that supply harness and controll modules to fit to rwd, hence my reply above. A bit pricey but its new tech ish.

 

Sounds like it can be done tho, interesting.

1.6 ecoboost uses sigma bellhousing to ford gearbox.

 

2.0 ecoboost bolt to an mx5 gearbox.

 

Ecu options are sbd and typhoon

Thanks for that bit of info. Assuming RX8 turbo may fit too, hoping as i have a spare.

Didnt fit the typhon ecu tho so ill look into it.

No such thing as an rx8 turbo, other than after market modified ones.

Ok, 231 modified to 450 dyno proven. Box was uprated. Point of origin not the issue, fitting it is.

I'd assume that you don't want to be rebuilding that when it blows up. Cause it will. Brand new 2.0 ecoboost is £2000. And it is pretty robust at 350bhp

Its the box i have not the engine.ecoboost is new tech. All about forging ahead with the new gear.

 

I could stick in an all ally LS engine,but thats easy option. Trying to break new ish ground. Esspecially if it will cost same as a turbo zetec,
