Attention: All Superspec Owners

I don't want to start a 'club within a club', but I thought it might be useful if we kept a database of Superspec owners. That way we know who to go for for Superspec advice, who lives relatively close, who has what engine, and who is going to what car show so we can meet up and discuss Superspec-specific issues.

From trawling the forum, I have come up with the following current active owners:

alanrichey (Al) - Swayfield, Lincs - (Rover 2.0 + MT75 Gearbox)

QuadraDave (Dave) - ??? - ???

Al Milton (Al) - Ramsgate,Kent - (Zetec)

maw (Matthew) - Leicester- ???

edbond (Ed) - Worcester- ???

Redspec (Steve) - Co Durham- 2.0 Rover + MT75 box

steven (Steven) - N. Ireland- ???

jwts (John) - Herne- ???

Pete the Dog (Peter) - Welshpool - ???

Have I missed anyone ?

Anyone not want to be included in a more detailed private one (full addresses) ?

Can we fill in the gaps ?

Anything else we need to know that is relevant ?

Cheers

Al

Good Idea and yes I have one of these as well.

Hi Al,

Not sure about a 'schedule', but would suggest annually at least.

Either end of the propshaft there are the universal joints with a grease nipple on each.

The UJ at the differential end is easy enough to get to with the car jacked up (& on axle stands of course), but the one at the gearbox is a bit more fiddly as you have to remove the long tunnel cover (easy enough on a Superspec as it should just lift off), then I think you have to remove the cover surrounding the gearlever (I can't remember for certain whether the access is definitely under the gear lever cover).

A good quality grease suitable for CV joints should do the trick.

Hope this helps

Al

Hi,

not sure if the superspecs were the same but my 2b had a flap cut into the floor pan at the gearbox end to allow you to get to the prop grease nipple. Although don't know how easy it would be to get to on jacks? i'm rather lucky my dad dug a pit when he built the garage (when i can actually get in there for all the junk).

I don't think the RH props were ever that good after seeing pics of them actually twisted and the ends snapping off, so grease as often as you can. There have been cases on here where the needle bearings have dried up completely and failed.

As an aside to a superspec register, I was led to believe that there were 100 of these kits, so you have a lot of kits to find.

Looking at the chassis number, I am also assuming that the last two digits might indicate the kit number.

In my chassis number, I started with three letters, then four digits which coincidentally corresponded to the month and year of sale, eight identical digits, and finally two random digits - which I guess might be the kit number (70 for me).

Can anyone support or dispel the myth?

Cheers, -steve

I could be added to the superspec list. although not on the road yet so not sure how much help i can be.

2ltr zetec on 45mm jenvies.

Type 9 gearbox

although im not local i may be able to help, we have had to mod ours somewhat to overcome some 'issues'.

or was that a standard issue with the superspec?

lol

Nigel, Steve & Joe. Added to the list thanks.

Steve: I thought we all had sump guards :) 100 kits ? So far I have found 14, so some way to go. I know Richard Stewart still has one unbuilt one in his lockup. I'm hoping someone has a part-built one somewhere that they want to clear out for the room, so I can buy a cheap 'donor' car for spare parts. And not sure about chassis number, the previous owner told me he made it up, although that also has a load of 7s, so maybe you are right.
