I Smell Petrol

So started on removing all the fuel related components from the Marlin today, which involved pumping out the remnants of fuel from the tank,

My old garage was not attached to the house and normally I would open the windows and close the door, however in my new house the garage is attached to the house and accessed via the utility room beside the kitchen

So I managed to spill around 1 litre of petrol on the concrete floor. Mopped it up with some rags and carried on. However sitting in my living room a few hours later the whole house smelled of petrol. My misses flipped her nut when we got home

Anyway Ive scrubbed the patch of concrete with detergent and water a few times, chucked cat litter over the patch, moved all fuel related components and Jerry cans out to the shed and plugged the fuel lines to stop any smell from the tank. Finally opened every window in the house but the smell is still lingering.

Any tips of how to get rid of the petrol smell?

I've had the same problem with our attached garage, the smell went after about a day, but our floor is sealed and epoxy painted so any spillages won't sink into the floor if they are got up quickly.

One other thing I found was that the fire detectors would go off in the utility if I ran the car for any time in the garage

Looks like pine disinfectant mixed with fairly liquid, some hot water and a scrubbing brush took away most of the smell! Might need to look at putting some kind of sealing strip on the door to the garage!
