#388637 Nord Lock Washers

Posted by Grim on 18 September 2018 - 08:23 PM

If it's the video I think it is, they've got a test rig that moves two halves of a bolted joint. A properly designed joint won't have movement of the two halves as the clamping force exerted by the bolt would prevent movement. It shows that the nordlock washers work well in badly designed or improperly torqued bolted joints, which is certainly a good thing, but not a game changer for most applications

#385740 Robin Hood With Nos!

How does nos work with bike carbs and a pipecross air filter (no plenum)? surely you'd need a nos injector per carb and then an extra fuel injector per carb (unless jetted to run it permanently)?

#382693 Difference Between...

Posted by Grim on 05 April 2018 - 07:15 AM

to add more confusion, my car was made when RH only sold sliding pillar models, and it says 2b plus on the receipt. I think it's simply that the 'plus' models were sold with a few more spares that made building easier(?)

#382279 Zero Emission Zero

I noticed it said that on my IVA certificate which, considering the hoops we have to jump through to pass the emissions test, seems weird - why not measure and record it as part of IVA?

I assume it makes no difference to anything as I still have to pay a decent whack for road tax... <_<

CO is measured at IVA not CO2. The CO reading tells you how rich your fuel mix is, CO2 tells you how much fuel is used, and would require a week it MIRA to find out.

you have to put the member code in before you select your ticket. It's not like a discount code at the checkout as you may expect.

#374696 A 'different' Superspec For Sale

that's chipfatflier's car, a veg oil burner that dumped its coolant at barkstone heath one year. Definitely a 2b/superspec type car.

#373375 Battery

as well as the capacity of the battery in amp-hours (Ah), look for the Cold Cranking Amperage (CCA), which is a better comparison of how the battery will perform.

#371962 Compression Testing

Posted by Grim on 03 May 2017 - 07:05 AM

as an aside, did you recheck the compression with a teaspoon of oil in the bores? if you get higher readings it suggests rings, if they are the same it is likely to be a valve issue, which would be worth investigation before swapping the engine
