Machining Anti Roll Bar

My Sierra based s7 has the original over stiff ARB. I have considered the tie bar option which is obviously ideal but skills/ time are limited. I'm going down the route of a thinner ARB and lighter springs but can anybody tell me the min thickness I should get the ARB milled down to? I think the 1300 Sierra was 21 mm so would that be best or dare I go thinner?

Tie bars may be a future winter project!

A cheaper version of the tie-bar is to use the anti roll bar, mine is an Exmo but it has the same bottom arm anti roll bar set up,, but where the roll bar is fitted to the body the roll bar is cut and a thick washer is welded on to the bar on each side of the mounting to stop the bush pulling out. I have put yellow poly bushes in the track control arm and the now tie bar and it is superb. The car has done 50,000 miles with this set up without any problems so I can highly recommend it. If you want a photo let me know and I will get one sorted out.

Thanks guys. Snapperpaul..that sounds a good and simple method. So you ended up with a flat section under the sump with basically a half round section?

My son has a holiday job from uni at a metal workshop. He is asking the boss who is into cars tomorrow. But many people seem to have gone this route so it should be possible. May have to pay for a few milling bits!

The tie bar mod is far superior in my op and probably as cheap unless machining is done on mates rates, I spent approx£40 + a bottle of scotch and recieved a far better car.I have details available still if any one is interested

Hi Mower man. I'm absolutely sure you are right and it may well be on my to do list one day. I really have considered it i promise! My son's boss is happy to do the milling. He has done one before. Thanks anyway.
