I have emeralds on my lotus and thankfully Slark racing are close by and are Emerald specialists, when I move back home JKM in Portsmouth are Emerald specialists too. More luck then judgement.

I ask on two folds of question. First was if yours is broken and you wanted a new one, then how did it break?

Second was if you just wanted one then an option could be omex.

I have got a spare omex system.

Not broken no, I am at the stage in my build where I've just ordered my engine and I need to get my ECU sorted for it (exciting times) and I have been looking at my options and gulped when I saw price (!!) so thought I would ask on here. I would prefer Emerald to be honest, however I have read good things about Omex - which is it the 600?

That's, errm... not quite true. It's great for the price, don't get me wrong, but it's not got the same level of features as an Emerald (number of maps, flat shift, ICV control, DBW, launch/traction control feature option, probably more if I could be bothered to read the manual more!). I completely agree that most of the features on the Emerald are unnecessary for the average joe road user, so I get what you're saying and I understand the recommendation, but blanket saying "it's just as good" is wrong.

Without going to fine into differences, but keeping it simple, the end user probably only needs fueling and sparking. Or in simple terms an electronic carb and dizzy. Most ecu on market will do just that.

Then there's the add on packages and most will also require some extra electronics or some specific kit to work there. Like for instance full throttle gear shifts, limiting boost at specific gears..there are many more but I'm sure you get the point.

The important thing in my opinion is to consider who owns the package and are they new, old, well supported, used in motorsport and known within the industry. The simple fact is it doesn't matter how fancy your setup is, if no one but you can use it.

Most would agree when I say find your local rolling road tuner or the person you trust, may not be the same. And see what they use.

I went to emerald because Dave Walker has been there, done it before and does have the T shirt.

Also very well supported.

I will rephrase my statement then it's just as good as the others if all you want is to run 16v 4 pot fuel injected with a supercharger and not all of the other features that the others offer. Which on a kit car is most probably never going to be used by Mr average owner. I looked at the omex and emerald and discounted them on price, by the time you added all the bits on it was way more than £714 I paid for a complete canems kit.
