Had car mot today good news it passed.

My question is the bloke that mot the car has said that any kit Car registered on or after 2007 should have a catalytic converter fitted. So my question is is this right I did argue the point with him as he mot the car last year and didn't say anything about this.

More question

1. what cat would fit?

2. We're to get one from?

3. How much will it cost?

Thanks in advance .

If it did require one for mot, it would not have passed IVA.

If you are near a vosa, call in and ask for written conformation and stick it under the mot testers nose.

Not to sure but I think it goes on engine date not registration of car.

A friend not far from me past last year with a Zetec without cat so something is wrong somewhere.

I know I wouldn't put one on to satisfy someone ignorance.

If he argued against it he should have failed it.

2Bbuilt passed IVA yesterday and I've asked him the question.

I've asked him the question on his IVA thread.

Sorry, wrong name the first time. 😯😲

I also couldn't understand why he passed it when he is saying this.

I have always understood that it was from the date of the engine aswell.

I am sure I have read on here some were about this before?

as far as I am aware it goes on reg plate mine does have an emissions limit on my registration form from when it was IVA so if it is not on your registration DOC then it is not required but generally they don't test emissions on a kit car

My emission limits are stated on the V5 and I would not be able to meet them without a cat fitted. They are definitely based on the date of registration (2008 in my case) and not the engine age (which seems rather unfair as RH bought the Rover engines for the Superspec in the late 90s and mine sat on the shelf for 10 years). And unlike Tractor my emissions are always checked. Must depend on the MoT station.

MOT testers manual says that any kit car registered before 1 Aug 1998 are to be treated as if first registered before August 1975 for emissions purposes. Those registered after required SVA and should be tested to the limits set out on the V5.

However this is from the flowchart for non cat vehicles and I assume there's another for cat vehicles which I don't have

Don't know if it helps,

Malcolm
