#376929 Oil Leak

Posted by florin metal works on 14 September 2017 - 09:15 AM

Hand tight will be pretty poor if access is restricted -- give it a little nip up with a band type tool.

Post-script -------------------------

Two gliders survived the BBQ & have been enjoyed on several dozen flights without the help of grandchildren.

Sadly Al's stirring sticks & copious amounts of super glue could not repair SteveA's 'craft any more tonight & its final flight ended in several pieces.

The last remaining plane is intact but sat right in the top of a thorn tree where it shall remain unless the wind brings it back to earth.

Thanks again Bob, it kept us & quite a few other "kids" employed & playing for a long time.

#376325 For Our Ladies --- Emma/becky?

Posted by florin metal works on 24 August 2017 - 07:18 PM

Lidl Super Week-end Offer --- 6 bottles 75 cl  Allini Proseco £20.00 ( £31.50 )

Is this a good buy?  No idea -- will stay with G&T

Sorry to give you a small B Becky -- tried to change but failed.

#376314 Track Day Insurance

Posted by florin metal works on 24 August 2017 - 12:44 PM

Save a load of money & buy a roll of bubble-wrap --- will keep your car looking as lovely as ever & slow you down too.

Just a final big thank-you to all who made the week-end work,  Bob T for the endless effort to make a success of our gliders & the tasty pies/cream; Al for getting kippered while cooking Friday evening & Sunday morning plus all the drinks; Martin & Dee for the steaks & wine; Jackie for the dips & Dave for the R/C plane.Stephen for the new banner & drinks.  Mo was pleased all the dirty cups/dishes disappeared with-out a word.

I've probably missed out a load, the week-end was quite busy;( I did get out in Florin once with a guest -- in between the showers) so thanks to one & all for your contributions & most of all attending.

Bring your cycle cape as well, we could try to launch a yellow UFO.

We'll keep our fingers crossed & an umbella or two handy.

My crystal ball seems to have mis-read the weather for the week-end, always a problem with long range predictions made in May.

How-ever all the tents are up so plenty of shelter from sun/rain/hail, will be just a matter of dodging the drops if & when they occur.

See you all as planned--- a brolly may be prudent.

#375440 Uk To Ban Sale Of Petrol And Diesel Cars

Posted by florin metal works on 26 July 2017 - 03:44 PM

Diesel is far better fuel in calorific content so why are the car manufacturers not concentrating on the removal of the nitrogen oxide from the exhaust?   Electric cars are only efficient at point of use, every energy conversion is less than 100% efficient so fuel burnt (or captured from wind/sun ) convert to electricity/ transformer & distribution/convert to D,C & then chemical (battery) storage- return to electrical energy & FINALLY turn the wheels with the electric motor which may be 70% efficient.

#374901 Recommendations For Good Headlights

Posted by florin metal works on 11 July 2017 - 08:29 AM

Just added a pair of spot-lights & wired them into the headlamp relay with their own switch as well --- over 200watts on high beam & I can see fine.

#374737 What Year Would This Plate Have Been?

#374655 Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday

It's just another day --- but enjoy it all the same.

#374576 Camshaft Identification

Posted by florin metal works on 04 July 2017 - 07:44 PM

My old 1000cc mini had a cam ( 731??) which was as docile as granny's Morris until 3000rpm then it went like the proverbial rocket & revved to 8K --- lovely memories of the late 60's.

#374366 Polishing Accessories For Use With A Drill

Posted by florin metal works on 27 June 2017 - 09:21 PM

Don't bother, you'll spend more time trying to remove the black bits of burnt-on polish;the drill rpm is too high.

#374227 Pinto Efi Drops Power When Cornering

Posted by florin metal works on 22 June 2017 - 10:14 PM

The big blue box appears to be a poor idea for a swirl pot -- it would work better if the copper pipe to the injection pump came from the bottom of the blue box & the feed from tank went into the top; so try turning the blue box 90* clock-wise ( looking at the copper pipe end)

#373871 Early?

Posted by florin metal works on 14 June 2017 - 10:40 AM

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy wealthy and wise!

Very little of that applies to me--just recovering from an infection caused by being bitten by who knows what in the garden several weeks ago :bad:  --- wealthy enough to retire but not get some-one/any-one to do the garden work/repairs :sorry:  --- & only people who know me can answer if wise.

Still, I am still standing at 70  8)
