Good evening ,

New to kit cars just bought my first one a Robin Hood 2b last month, after a bit of work I have re mounted the front arches on a sliding pillar suspension ( what a pain) and mounted the front rad and electric fan which had been cable tided to the chassis!!!!!

It is running a 2 l pinto on a type 9 box

I have had a bit of fun in the car but now it's time to make it a bit more special,

I have seen a 3.0 v6 jaguar engine that has been mounted into a 2b which was nice to see so I know it will fit. However it was running on the type 9 box which I have read is good for 180bhp tops.

The jaguar 3.0 v6 5 speed manual looks to be the the cheapest way to gain big hp from a standard engine £1000.00 buys a running car with mot but is it possible to fit the rear sub frame with all the diff, brakes and suspension to a RH 2b?? I have no problems with welding and jig working this is what I do for a job.

This way I can run full s type running gear which is nice and strong.

Any thoughts or am I wrong about my box not been up for the job and I'm making more work than whats needed.

Thanks

Mark

Is there any way of leaving the Sierra diff and back end and joining this to jag engine and gear box or is my type 9 box not up for the job.

I have been measuring up to see if I can mount the jag s type rear subframe into the back of a 2b with a bit of chopping and welding to pick up the mounts. It would make the wheel base 6" wider but have very strong running gear

The front will also be changed if engine swop goes to plan to remove the old sliding pillar design. I just seem to hear bad things about the type 9 box not been up for large engine figures

no problem at all use the sierra diff and jag box its much better than the type 9 keep the front half of the jag prop and the rear half of the sierra prop when the engine and box are in measure the length and send the two halves to dave mac propshafts he charges about £70 to weld and balance. Quick turnaround too my one was 4 days....

My plan was to fit larger wheels to help with traction but if I had 15's would this not just mean it will loose out on top end . If this means I'm good for 120 mph not 155 mph like the jag but I get there faster that's ok with me

On my diff it has numbers 83BG-4033- 6A I think, could this unit be replaced with a LSD that fits my current drive shafts? This would then leave me to find a complete jag 3.0 v6 engine & manual gearbox which are easy to find and prop shaft to be converted as per reply above ?

Like tractor says.....I'm running a 3.9 v8 on a 5 speed type 9......3.8 diff and 17" wheels........and so far it spins the back wheels before breaking or bending anything.

Type 9's aren't great with big bhp when turbos are involved....the sudden kick-up-the-ar5e of power tends to break 3rd gear.....whereas n/a engines deliver the power smoother and it gives the wheels chance to slip before breaking the gearbox.......or so I'm told.......that's the kiss of death just put on my gearbox :)

Hay mate it would be best to use the jag box, max power of the engine is at 6800rpm, 5th gear ratio is 0.75, 3.92 sierra diff gives 158 mph with 15"wheels.

There are loads of top speed calculators on the webby check the math ? ? ?
