I am currently awaiting RHE to start selling and producing project 2B's again and have decided to buy and strip down a donor in the meantime. Would the modifications needed to a sierra estates rear suspension be easy enough to overcome or would i be as well getting a saloon, considering I can get an estate VERY cheap?

Also does anyone know when RHE should start producing 2b's again?

I used an estate as a doner and RH sent me a leaflet on how to adapt the rear suspension, I just had to have two brackets at the local blacksmiths costing £5.

Your best bet is to aquire a saloon model ,why make life hard when there are so many old sierra`s around

It seems to depend very much on where you live

In west yorkshire there seems to be no especially cheap sierras, and definitely very few 1.6s, but 2.0 estates are in abundance. Oop north, (thats very north if you're a southerner ) I've heard they have loads of 1.6s :gdit: !

 

Then again, you might struggle to find a blacksmith to knock you up some brackets for £5

 

Swings and roundabouts, but this is life! Research it first then you won't go wrong

I couldn't agree more. I live in Kent and when looking for my donor the only ones I could find near me, they wanted £250-£300 for. :gdit: That much for a knackered Sierra??? Looking in the loot and auto trader there were loads for about £50 up by Manchester and Liverpool.

I ended up buying an 1800 in very good mechanical order for £100 from Essex, it even came with a new unfited cam belt.

I can't see that using an estate donor gives any more than a couple of hours extra on the total build sorting the rear suspension.

If you intend ending up with a carbed hood, buy a donor with a carb and the right size engine, estate or car. Don't get a CVH, DOHC or a wrong size pinto or injection unless they are what you want to build. All will cost loads of time and money.

I used an estate and it took me weeks to obtain a solution from RH and when it came involved cutting holes in the rear swing arms, you could however get a couple of brakets made up to fit the saloon shockers on to (copy saloon setup). As I didn't like the sound of cutting holes in the swing arm I opted for the RH coil overs and made a plate up to bolt where the shocker once went and bolted the coilovers to that (needs a ?10mm? hole in the centre of the spring seat where the shocker used to fit through for the coilover backet to attach).

Personally I'd get a couple of saloon swingarms from the scrappy if I did it again to save the agro.

Would it not be a lot of agro going to a scrappy and swimming in mud and dirt trying to pull off a couple of rusty swinging arms?

Best to only have to do it once!
