I was thinking it was the straight six from the Aston Martin but late 30's is too old for one of those. The early ones were a 4 cyl.

 

Maybe an XK Jag? or Daimler?

Yes i was trying to zoom in on the logo in the first pic, same logo on block.

 

That'll be the SS100 then ? Around 1936, Straight Six, 3.5 litre , 125 bhp.

Jaguar, of course. Think I was getting close before.

 

SS=Swallow Sidecars, Sir Williams original company,founded in 1922 . This symbol was dropped and changed to Jaguar when Adolf somebody used it for nasty purposes.

methanol burning two stage supercharged
