Size Of A Lightweight

Happy new year.

 

In advace thanks for your forum and sorry for my english ( I'm a frenchy ).

 

I Can't find indications about the size of a ligthweight :

 

Wheelbase, width, weight, can it fit on a small trailer who support in total only 750Kg. What is the best way to tow it with another car.

There is a load of info if you search... I think finished weight is in the 650kg+ range.

 

A few of the guys should be able to give you the wheelbase etc.

 

You could tow with a trailer (likely to need a braked one as it will top 750kg incl the trailer weight) or you could fit some kind of hinged A frame with a towing eye to the front of the chassis. This needs A LOT of careful thought with a lightweight though, the monocoque aluminium chassis is not ideal for this (easy on a 2b). I'll be doing this to mine at some stage as you just sneak under the 750kg towing limit.

hi

you will need a braked trailer capable of taking about 650 to 720kg depending on the engine type that is fitted.

dont chance it it ant worth it.

width on the rear is roughly the same as a sierra, front slightly smaller.

I've found these dimension for a 2B

 

DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT

 

Length: 3500mm

 

Width: 1700mm

 

Height: 1180mm

 

Wheelbase: 2480mm

 

Track:

front: 1460mm

rear: 1480mm

 

Ground clearance: 120mm

 

Are the same for a ligthweight

Length: 125" (from rear of chassis to front of chassis - no nose cone)

 

Track: Front will be different than 2b, but rear should be exactly the same

Front: 52" (w/ i believe 35mm offset 15" wheels)

Rear: hub flange to hub flange: 56"

 

Width:

Cockpit: 42" (designed to match locost)

 

Weight: Gonna be highly variable based on the build (engine, drivetrain components, strengthening, ...). *Somewhere* between 1000 -1400lbs.

Have you bought a lightweight already? If not steer clear in my opinion (will prob only find part builds now) & buy the new Zero instead. It has a proper chassis & will make a good track car.

 

Are you going for a bike Engine?

Dan is correct that the Zero is probably a better choice. The lightweight can give you a nice result, but requires quite a bit of your own fabrication to handle the strengthening of the base monocoque, as i mentioned earlier.

 

Besides, we like the exclusivity of the current set of l/w owners! ;)

Recently, I purchased one of the partial kits from "Jim" at Coveland Motorsports in upstate New York, USA. Partial kit means that you do not receive the instructions and you do receive lots of excuses. Then once Coveland gets tried of making excuses communications just stop altogether.

 

The kit is a great deal like a complicated jigsaw puzzle with major pieces missing and all of the supplied peices unidentified.
