Hi, just a few suggestions

If the machine simply powers off without you touching it/moving it to disturb a loose connection, it's likely to be an internal temperature sensor that's causing it to shut down. Is the fan running? Sometimes you can't hear the fan under 'idle' conditions and it only powers on when a set temperature is exceeded. If the fan isn't running the internal temperature goes up, triggers the sensor and shuts down. Take the back off and check this first. Try running it with the back off (carefully!) to see if it stays on longer. If it does, very likely to be overheating. If the fan is not working see if it's jammed with dust/fibres.

The BIOS Battery may be on it's way out, but this won't be the cause of it shutting down (if the battery goes completely you lose BIOS settings and probably wouldn't be able to boot up at all).

Can you get in to the BIOS? Some BIOS have a diagnostic report which can indicate problem area.

Faulty main battery connection? Many laptops will operate without the main battery connected - just on mains power. Try that.

The story so far --stripped it down checked all connectors , connections etc , (as earlier in the day i noticed that as soon as it was tapped or moved it locked up ) , put it all back together and now it wont even turn on , it is getting power as the front panel lights work , the bios bat is down to 2.5 v so not completley dead , i am thinking now the power board could possibly have a fault , so the back off again in the morrow and check it all over again .
