Ex-Police Mini Van in blue. K-reg. 998cc. Great fun but quickly replaced with a NEW MG Midget 1275cc reg. XRR437M. Yes I'd have it back tomorrow. Three great years of fun.

1937 Austin Seven 'Ruby' SE4981 (I think) in glorious green paintwork

Front axle mounted on single transverse leaf spring , cable operated front brakes with rod operated rears and friction dampers all round.

No heater - only what heat got in past the floorboards after a few miles

Brakes were sort of OK in the dry but used to pull to one side in the wet, problem was I never knew which side until I pressed the pedal.

Still what did you expect for £10 in 1960, better than that I learnt  .

Would I like it back and get out there and mix it with modern cars with computer controlled suspension, safety restraint systems, air bags, fat radial tyres and anti-lock servo assisted brakes ?? Well maybe not

I did toy with buying a used 1955 Morris Isis, but even with petrol at 4s 10d a gallon [24.1p/gallon = 5.3p/litre], I decided that the 2639cc straight six engine (20 mpg) might be a tad expensive to run on my then meagre salary.

First car was a 71 beetle, great car, loads of fun, especially racing my mate in his Escort 1300 suped up to look like an RS2000 - great times, even had 93mph out of it, down a hil with the wind behind me.

second was a 72 spitfire.

most of the cars I've had in the past as all had great attributes:-

MGBGT

MGB

Vauxhall Senator 2.5

Vauxhall Senator 3.0

Cavalier SRi

Stag

Spitfire 1500

67 Mini Woody

72 Beetle (yes another)

71 Camper

Yes I'd have them all back, apart from the Talbot Horizon and MkI Golf

And what have I ended up with - A Citroen Zantia - bloody awfull

1982 (I think???) Saab 900 GL Twin carb! - found it sitting unloved in the far corner of a Vauxhall garage forecourt. I think they were asking something like £150, but I offered £60 and he nearly snapped my hand off!

It was white, and very rusty, but I resprayed it blue, got it on the road, and it served me well at uni. Would definitely have it back B)

A35 van. £25. Back in the days when if you didn't work on it Saturday morning the chances of it running for the following week were slim. And I bought petrol at four gallons for a pound. Mind you in them days you could take your girlfriend to the cinema, have fish and chips on the way home, pay for the bus fares and still have change from a halfcrown. ^_^

I wonder what nickname you could have had for the saab, Joel? Difficult.

2CV6, Two-tone paintwork, top of the range with two sun visors :D .

Felt fast even when going slow, however it was possible to get it 'off the clock' downhill on the M62.

It was a convertible with two opening options.

A massive 29BHP 600cc flat twin engine, air cooled.

Would I have it back,

felt fast, convertable, 40MPG, A real laugh round corners.

Of course

Ford Anglia 1958 100E

Black two door like the one on Heartbeat.

1072 cc side valve engine forever wrecking big ends. :o

Conrods had to have new white metal, I think, sprayed on to them then they had to be machined to size of crank.

Usually lasted me about two months before I blew it apart again. -_-

Vacuum wipers only had a decent speed when you went down hill with throttle shut!!!!!

Have it back ????? not a chance.

Wish I could have kept the two MK1 Escort Twin Cams I had, along with the MK1 & MK2 Lotus Cortinas' and an amaizingly quick MK1 3litre Capri.

OH HAPPY DAYS :D :D :D

If only we had all been born with a manual of "hind sight" wouldn't we all have a great collection.

Ford Capri 1.6L Black Vinyl Roof, red paintwork G484WJF, bought before I passed my test and polished to death way back in 1978; followed by side pipes and striped fur interior :D I'd have it back without all the mods made back then, mind you followed it with a mk3 cortina (1st pinto) that had at different times a confederate flag on the roof, starsky and hutch stripe on the side, scaffold pipe as front bumber (bit wild then, used to push each other)

Before getting into rallying so a stream of mk2 escorts and more pinto tuning, 25 years later back playing with a pinto again.................

I made a list of my previous cars a while back and am at 37 since that Capri, really sad was I could remember the reg for most of them.
