The regulator is a standard electronics 78 series voltage reg at if I remember 10Volts.

It is in a TO220 package and is a 7810 available from RS and posibly CPC

IanS how on earth did you remember that?

Information like that goes straight out of my head

Ian the 10v regulator appears to be a bit of a rare beast. I have managed to purchase a 12v one would this be ok to use. Am i right in assuming a 10v one is used to allow for a margin of saftey

thanks

graham

The 12V one won't realy do because of the dropout voltage (don't go there). Use a 5V one with a 5V zenner diode in the centre leg. As Ian said, use a TO220 package and bolt it to a heatsink.
