2b Sliding Pillar

Hi all

Got my 2B with sliding pillar, front suspension with a EFI Pinto engine. I bought this as a part finished kit with the intention of getting it finished off. Some of you may recall seeing it for sale in the back of the latest club magazine. I have made really good progress and got the engine fired up and all the wiring completed and tested. It was missing the alternator bracket and I have managed to cobble together a temporary bracket for testing purposes. However, this is not a long term fix. I was wondering if anyone has a spare alternator bracket or details or pics of a bracket which I could fabricate or use. I'm assuming that the original bracket fouls the steering rod.

I would appreciate some help if possible.

Regards

Rob

Hi you need to get hold of an alloy one and do some cutting away of excess material, to allow max adjustment towards the engine and fit a smaller belt. That will take the alternator away from the steering shaft

That’s what I did on mine

Depending on which manifold you have on depends on whether it will work as Tony says or not. If you have the cast iron Ford one then it should be OK but if you have the RH 4 branch then you may have to fabricate a method of dropping the mount below the steering in which case it is worth thinking of changing the alternator at the same time for a small one off a Suzuki/rascal van etc. as there isn’t much room for adjustment before you come up against the chassis

Go to your local scrappy and find an old escort with CVH.

The alternator bracket is shaped like the letter ' F '.

It only needs one hole redrilling and it fits a treat, on the existing block holes.

Choose the right length of belt to position the alternator away from your manifold.
