Anbody fitted Mk2 Ford RS Escort alloys to their RH

Are they 13"rims.

What size of tyres did you fit

I would like to fit same but as sierra 185/65x14" look about right sitting in the wheel arch, I'm concerend that the alloys I'm talking about could look lost in the arch.

Thanks

Lindsay

Hi lindsay Piddy I belive is still running capri laser 13 inch wheels, a wheel 1 inch smaller will only lower the ride height by 1/2 inch and could be compensated by increasing the profile of the tyre, as long as you dont mind seeing more rubber, will also give a softer ride but could slightly increase body roll around corners

13" wheels are fine but you will need to increase the profile to maintain the same rolling radius as the donor (maintains ride height and speedo calibration). Make sure they will fit because they will be a different offset to the Sierra wheels and the same width of tyre will sit further out from the body and so it may stick out past the arches.

The Fiesta was fitted with a similar style of wheel which was the later offset - same as the Sierra. Check what you are buying. There will be various codes on the wheels that tell you offsets etc (the tyre bible has the translations I think - there was a link to it on the old site not sure if it is still there - anyone?) there is also a year code which will tell you when the pattern was made. If they are genuine RS Escort wheels they are worth money to an escort owner despite being almost exactly the same as the later Capri items (which I bought a set of with a couple of decent tyres fo £20 the other week - thanks Tony). There was also a similar style of wheel fitted to the X-pack escorts which is MUCH wider and will definitely stick out unless you have wider arches than a dax (if you can get these for under £100 each, even scruffy ones, bite their hand off).

205 is a little wide on these (my S7 has 205 rears and 185 fronts) and can lead to a very "floaty" ride as the sidewalls flex too much. 185's are fine and although not as sharp as the lower profiles on a 14" or 15" rim make a decent road tyre.

Just one gotcha to look out for. What car are you fitting them to? If it's a sliding pillar 2B then the front can cause problems as the outer end of the lower wishbone can catch on the inside of the wheel under heavy braking or over big bumps on a 14" wheel - a 13" wheel can exasperate this problem further as it has less travel before that nasty grinding sound.

I have these exact wheels on my 3A. They are the 4 spoke ones (see pic)

Can't remember what size but check this link:

Tyre calc

You can put before and after sizes in to calculate the correct size for different rims.

Hello.

Yes As John said I have the four spoke Ford RS Alloys fitted to my 2B.

They are Capri alloys as fitted to the Lazer and sports. They look the same as the Escort version but may have a different offset.

When I built the car it had sliding pilar suspension and the Fiesta RS four spoke wheel didn't fit.

I believe that the Capri has the same off set as the Peoguot.

I fitted 185x60 tyres to my car this year but as Jim said I had grounding problems

I have now changed to 185x70 no more problems.

Piddy.
