Cheap Tin Top

I am going to need to buy a tintop in the next few weeks as I have to give the Company car back.

It needs to be big enough for 5.

Not looking to spend more than £1k if I can help it. <_<

Economical round towns as that is where it will do most of its work.

Cheapish to insure

Easy to fix when it goes breasts skywards

And bullet proof.

Any tips, or horror stories welcome.

Common as muck but surprisingly good to drive and pretty robust - Mondeo

I'd second the Mondeo. Mine's french at the mo, Citroen Zantia type thingy. Big 2.0 turbo, top of the range estate jobby, but 2 years ago, it fit the bill of being less than £500, estate, and a towbar.

Its had a full service history before I got it, and was £90 to put through MOT last year. If it passes this year, I'm gonna have to give it a change of oil.

I second that engine is about bullet proof and rot is not normally a problem or even a Rover (even cheaper) but it must have a Honda engine

I picked up an R reg 2ltr mondeo auto in january with 3 months Tax & test on it for £350, it's going for MOT again tomorrow, and i'm not expecting it to fail.

Son in law's just picked up a P reg 2ltr Honda Auto accord, OK it's got a few minor jobs to do for MOT, but no more than a couple of £100 at most, he got it for £200 and it's mint inside & out.

There are some cheap motors out there if you look, but with your track record Tim, my money says you'll buy a dog!! :o

1 careful owner..... :)

I also recommend that era (R, S etc) of Mondeo. Escort Estate would do you too.... I had a 95 one of those, very good even at 165k.
