Hinging The Nosecone

Recommended Posts

Hi all

having recently fitted 4 quick release (zeus) fasteners, i've decided that i'd rather hinge the nosecone on my Exmo.

However, i'm not sure on the best way of doing this, have any of you carried out this modification and if so have you any pics?

What type of hinges did you use, household, piano or specialist?

Thanks in advance

Dave

I have 6 Zeus "D" fasteners on mine 4 on the front and one either side but i have thought of fitting 2 hinges to the front that have removable pins (but replaced with split pins so they cant drop out), that way it will hinge up but will also be quickly removeable, its juat a thought at the mo as i have a pair of hinges left over from a job , they came from Screwfix if my memory serves me right.

My next project is to fit hinges to my numberplate , so it can swing both ways ;) just waiting for the hinges to arrive.

hi,

yep thats exactly the sort of thing i had in mind aswell, problem is the metal sheet that comes from the chassis to the nosecone from below.

it over extends and i dont want to cut it and find out i needed the metal.

i'm thinking of keeping the zeus fasteners and hinging as well to reduce the amount of holes in the lower part of the nosecone.

also if i hinge the no. plate it might not be visable when bombing around the roads ;)

I found it easier to weld two oblong flat lugs on the most forward part of the chassis - drill two holes through the nose cone and the lugs when every thing was lined up, I then got some 11mm tube and used bolts as hinges - you can now take the whole front of the car in ten minutes.

I have a photo in the garage
