She Wont Run

Hi all!

I'm having a bit of trouble getting my 2b to run. its a 2.0 pinto with a 285 cam and verneir pulley on an injection head converted to carb.

I can get it to start by pouring fuel down the carb but it wont continue to run, this leads me to believe its a fuel problem. The fuel pump is fine and the bit in the carb where the float is has petrol in it (not sure on the proper names).

The carb looks like a refurbished/new one so should be ok, not sure what type of carb it is, looks like it might be 38dgas.

i'm a bit of a novice with carbs so can anyone point me in the right direction? if needed i can take photos/videos etc.

Thanks, Steve

just taken the carb to bits again and all the "adjuster" screws on the inside are wound right in, as are the idle mixture screws on the outside.

im starting to think maybe the carb needs setting up but havent got a clue how to do it. anyone got any guides?

thanks for the link

after checking my carb against some diagrams it looks like im missing a few part

so i think i'll just buy a second hand one that i know works now and maybe sort out the recon'd one at a later date:)

thanks for your help so far :D

It's a bit difficult to tell from the photos but I think you have one of the many variations (apparantly over 30 since 1970) of a 32/36 DGAV which is similar but not the same as the 38 DGAS. Pics of my 38 DGAS are attached to allow you to make a more detailed comparison.

I think it is the LOVE (Low Vacuum Enrichment) unit which is missing in pic2 - the accelerator pump should be on the other side. The choke spindle and flaps are also missing.

Just checked - there are around 83 variations of this carb - some were never fitted with the LOVE unit

You can check which carb you have - the ID code is stamped onto the base flange (somewhere  )

Hi,

It looks like your idle mixture screws are missing (there should be two thread holes, one each side of the carb right at the bottom - the mating face between manifold and carb), the choke spindle/flaps as mentioned, the automatic choke (which on mine is plumbed into the coolant), there should be two brass coloured jets at the top of the carb (I can only see one in the picture).

Not a comprehensive list but enought to get you started. Have a look at the pictures posted and the schematic. It'll give you a parts list you need.

Best,

Andy

looks like im issing an awful lot then

im gunna keep an eye out for a second hander on ebay or here that will put me on for now. theres a carb specialist near here so i'll send this current one off to them at some point.

Thanks again for your input everyone!

Steve
