Why should oil come out of the gearbox just because you take it off the car? Are there not oil seals on the front (Clutch end) and the rear (Prop shaft end)?

with the type 9 you remove the prop from the tailhousing, therefore a big hole is left! the mt75 retains its bit of shaft and unbolts further along the shaft i beleive

Grim,

My type 9 must be different. It has a splined shaft still in the tailhousing that the propshaft slides onto. Plus no oil has leaked out of the tailhousing either.

Or am I doing something wrong? ;)

Hi

I was pretty sure that when i took my type 9 gearbox out and tipped it slightly it poured oil out when the prop shaft was removed. Not sure if there are different ones with different oil seals. Mine is a 5 speed from a 91. I had to leave a section of the prop in so it didn't leak. Maybe if you don't tip it then it doesn't come out ?!

If you have no oil comming out of the tail shaft housing then I would suggest you have very little, or no oil in the box.

It probably hasn't got any oil in it  or it hasn't been tipped far enough on it's -rse to leak !,has the box in the photo been proffesionaly rebuilt ? if so it is probably dry needing to be lubed up after fitting to the car and fitting the prop shaft[normal practice in the trade !] HTH mowerman

You've done a good job on that! looks new. What paint did you use? Did you rebuild box or just cleaned it up? What did you use to clean it?
