Hornet

Hi,

 

Our local Council Youth centre has just been loaned an old late seventies early eighties kit car to refurbish called a Hornet, I'm interested to hear from anyone who knows this kit or even has one.

The car I believe was built totally from scratch like the Ron Champion car, it has been used in competition and road registerd, and we are doing it up for the owner to use in hill climb, auto test etc.

I belevre that it is a ply wood tub skined in sheet ally on a ladder chassis. the company is BWE they also do a kids car called the grasshopper.

The Hornet was a wide bodied version of the Locust by BWE. I think they where from sheffield area.

 

Approx 14 years ago I started building a Locust using a second hand ladder chasis and a MK2 escort.

 

Unfortunatley the arrival of twins stopped completion!

 

They body was aluminium clad plywood or MDF.

 

You still see a few examples about.
