Hiya.

I have emailed the Zero Company for a list of what I need to build a Zero Kit Car... Im getting the Zero Base Plus Kit... But no where can i find out what i actually need!

Like do I need the wiring from the donor car?

The list goes on i guess!

hi, from memory(and its only been 12months) you need engine and box, diff, half shafts, brake systemi,i,e. back plate, shoes, cylinders, cable.front brakes and hubs, master cylinder, steering column with all the switches. keep as much as you can from donor, even if you dont use it someone on here may need something and you could get a few quid back :drinks: my plus kit came with a loom which was too short so soldered some new in,i believe they have sorted this out.also comes with new brake pipes and s/s braided ones. I personally changed the wheel cylinders, new shoes and bearings on the rear and recon calipers, new bearings, discs, and upgraded pads to mintex ones on the front.it all depends on your budget,i wanted to do it once and thats why i bought new where i could.if in doubt keep it then ask on here.what engine you using?hth.

You will need more bits from the donor than you can imagine and we could list.

Little things like brake pipe to brake flexible hose clips, that strange relay under the dash, plastic collars on the steering column and the wavy washers that sit under some seat belt bolts, fine thread propshaft to diff bolts, special circlips and other fixings.

I had tins and tins of obscure bolts and fixings from the donor and even then it was difficult to find some things.

It is generally considered best to keep the donor next to the kit until late in the build.

Many people do use the Sierra loom but i would highly recommend a Vicky Green or similar, or even the Car Builder Solutions relay and fuse box solution.

Keep every plug and socket in the engine bay, take out the whole engine loom if you can and mark where every thing went, from and to.

If you can, strip parts from the donor, clean them, paint them, replace seals or at least buy new ones and place with donor part, put all bolts and nuts in the place they came out of on the part. Even if you replace later you will have a reference.

Even if you get rid of the donor shell and I mean only the shell plus doors, glass, bonnet, boot lid and seats. You must keep the V5 and I would recommend keeping the VIN plate and don’t forget to SORN and renew it each year if it takes over a year to build.

It is easy to throw away all the surplus bits when you have finished the build but almost impossible to find a substitute bit especially when you know there was one on the shell you scraped.
