Without knowing the ratio's...it will probably improve your acceleration (fun) but the rev's will be higher for a given cruising speed...

Hope that help!

If you can believe what it says ;)

Haynes Manual #343 states

1.6 Cortina axle ratio 3.89:1 - standard saloon & 4.11:1 - optional saloon and estate

2.0 Cortina axle ratio 3.75:1 all variants

As you might expect the 2.0 has slightly higher gearing.

It also states :

"Two axle housings are used (A type) and the heavier (B type). Construction is identical and only external differences being the axle housing and the pinion flange"

1.6 = A type 2.0 = B type

There is only a sketch illustrating the differences between the two axle casings

The type B looks slightly "beefier"at the front & back and the pinion drive flange does not appear to protrude as much from the casing.

The pinion flange diameters look the same.

But the type B casing appears to be slightly shorter in terms of the distance from the centre line of the half shafts to the pinion flange.

If you were to get one from a scrappy it would certainly be worth running a rule over it first.

Sorry if I may have added confusion - I'm building a 2B based on a Sierra, just had the manual to hand.
