Hi All

Just a little advice if ya could please.

I went to fit my CVH engine the other day and to my dismay it doesn’t fit, it’s the 1.8 Single point injection type. It appears I left some vital factors out when measuring lol.

so, my questions are, do you think it would pass an emissions test with bike carbs on?

Also has anyone fitted a bike engine to their hoods, i was toying with that idea and am totally in the dark on what the complications would be.

Any help is gratefully received

Hi Big John, look upon it as good news! the 1.8CVH is not a very good engine, the 1.8 head was some sort of lean burn affair, that did not develop a lot of power and us expensive to tune.

Bike engined cars are brilliant in theory, but have big drawbacks in cost of fitting them, and keeping them running, there not really suited to pulling a car along for normal driving.

There are a few people who I know that have bike engined cars and they say that there not the type of car you can go for a long drive in, great for a thrash were you leave everything in in your rear mirror.

Try and and get a Zetec 2 litre and see if you can get the emissions on Bike carbs.

Only my opinion though!

Good Luck

Steve

Hi Big Jon1

I do not run a RH but a Haynes Roadster and there is a member of that forum that has successfully put bike carbs on a 1.8 CVH (mark) and got the car through IVA.

Steve is correct in such they are not a popular engine as mods are virtually none existent. I run the 1.8 CVH with the standard Pierburg carb, I just have a hole in the bonnet! I think the Single point would also need the same.

Typical bhp for mark and myself after rolling roads sessions are 105 and 107 bhp.

Hope the information helps.

Adrian

1.8 CVH converted to injection (used inlet manifold & throttle body from Escort)Burtons say it's a strong engine based on an american 1900 lump;fitted O.K. in our 2B without servo brakes. Which bit wont fit in the Zero?

hi steve,

the inlet manifold caught on the chassis rail that runs in the engine bay, dasdly something broke whilst trying to fit it too. ive done spme research and found a few people that are running the 1.8 cvh on bike cars (zx6r) with a megajolt for the ignition. i just need to find a megajolt kit thats less than £290. so guess what my next post is haha

That's the bit I cut out & replaced with a new piece straight across the car without the double set.

my engine still not in yet, tried to put my donor wheels on so i can lower to ground, but they wont fit. back is fine, but front tyres are catching mudguard mount! cant afford my wheels of choice at moment so a bit stuck.

i recently purchase some zx6r bike carbs but not fitted yet. need to get a manifold and work out what to do with thermostat etc. i was going to leave the megajolt until after build complete and i have more money. if that ever happens!

let me know how you get on

thanks

steve
