I'm pretty certain it would be a Sierra rack on a 2b.

The Escort (Mk 2) rack is used on other 7 type cars but the mounts are different and I think the rack is slightly shorter.

yeah i bought my kit in 2002 and it uses i believe a modified metro rack. Don't know what modifications its had might just be the addition of some brackets or something. It also needed extensions a. to reach the track ends and b. to convert the threads to the correct size. The i wasn't happy with the rack extenders supplied by RH at the time so i had my own made 2x as long, not so they had a longer reach but so they had more thread screwed into them as i wasn't happy with the 20mm or so they screwed in.

You can use other racks if you want but you need to find one that will minise bump steer. Sorry if you already know this but basically you need to get the pivot points of the rack arms in the correct place so that as the suspension moves up and down the arms stays the same in relation to the hub. If it gets longer or shorter it will pull the hub in or out and steer the car in that direction when you hit a bump.

I still use the standard sierra setup, on the rear, of spring and separate shock from the wishbone to a mounting near the roll bar. The top mounting point was just a simple bracket bolted to teh chassis. If you are missing it it would be easy to make your own.

Personally i think it works really well, nice and firm and a good ride. Ive thought about changing and thought whats the point as iam happy with it, although if i change the fronts to fully adjustable coil overs then i'd consider doing the rear as well. The spring should sit in the 'cup' of the front mcpherson strut turned upsidedown and slid into the roll bar tube.

If you go with coil overs on teh rear you will need to make brackets that will bolt or weld into the wishbone hole where the sierra spring was and then one that bolts in teh roll bar tube for the top.

Some 2b's have (I think) a LHD Metro rack turned upside down.

I have a 2002 2B which has the Metro based rack. I made a direct comparison with Megadodo's this afternoon which is a 2007 2B and has a MkII Escort rack. The main difference is that the chassis cross member it sits on is flat in mine and angled forwards in Megadodo's. Overall dimensions seem about the same so either is OK for bump steer. Escort rack is wider where the steering shaft fits so gives better clearance to the exhaust. Quicker ratios are available with the Escort rack (2.4 and 2.9). Metro is too slow at 3.4. So looks like a good upgrade when I've worked out how to mount it. Think the Sierra rack is used on the sliding pillar 2Bs.
