Rs 2000 Throttle Bodies

Hi, I have an rs 2000 16v to go in my Robin Hood, have got gsxr 1000 throttle bodies with 2 injectors per cylinder, and fast road cams will be here soon, any ideas as to whether to use the Ford fuel rail and injectors or a lot better and easier inlet manifold and use the Suzuki injectors? Will be running Megasquirt and getting approx 230 bhp (I think) so am wondering if the Suzuki injectors will flow enough. Any ideas would be helpful, thanks.

230 may be a bit high for a guess. They are hard to get power from them.

The standard rs2000 injectors are 240cc, good for 150bhp and a bit more. So for 200bhp your going to need some between 250 to 300cc. The Suzuki has 8 injectors which are about 170cc and 120cc for the rears. Not sure on the correct numbers but if you google the numbers on the sides you should find the correct figure.

So I dout the Suzuki ones will be any good unless you run all 8.

Hi Crazy Chris3rd, I'm Building a GBS Zero with a similar setup. I'm using GSXR 750 TB's on a type 14 RS2000 16V, more for space constraints than power. I'm making my own manifold but haven't decided on what engine management to use. The Meggasquirt looks the best for the money, but not sure how hard it'll be to setup...!!! What are you doing for a progressive throttle linkage? Any advice would be welcome.

I'm also doing a Zero with the RS2000 engine ..... What clutch set up are you using as thats the only problem i have left to solve, (i'm using the standard injection system and microsquirt)

Hi Steve775, I used the standard RS2000 16V clutch and a MT75 Sierra box. I had to make up a custom clutch spacer though. I was going to post an image... But apparently we're not allowed.... :nea: Have a look on my Photobox page.

Have you modified your sump? And how did you get that inlet plenum under the bonnet...????

Standard sump.. a bit low but should be ok,I have th engine sitting as high as possible. I'm using a type 9 Box, the inlet manifold wont fit under the bonnet without mod's .. i've cut some of the bonnet out and will be getting a small bulge made.

I wanted to use the standard system and had all the engine loom and ECU ready.

I got the engine in and made up engine mounts so the crank lined up with the diff for height. But once I got the nose cone on, I realised (without the plenum on) I was going to have to shorten the oil filler on the cam cover just to get the bonnet on... And the sump was more like a land rudder when I realised what the ground clearance was.

I didn't really want to go to the hastle of Throttle bodies as I was quite happy with the standard 150bhp, but there seemed such a lot to plenum to hide.I managed to use the standard alternator though and didn't have to resort to the skinny one.

It’s nice to be in contact with someone who’s going through the same build. Where about in the country are you? I’m in Bournemouth.

I'm in the north east, I'll see what the sump is like when its a bit more mobile. I've had it running on the standard ECU but i think the microsquirt will be neater and ready for future mod's. i've got a small alternator to use which i'll mount the same as yours.

I remember talking to Richard at GBS. He was saying someone had one with a standard sump and it was sort of ok. But he shortened it in the end, because he was fed up avoiding sleeping policemen. Apparently it was running bike carbs and getting 170bhp (I think..... it was a while ago).

Mind you, just taking off that stupid air injection on the exhaust is supposed to give a 10hp boost.

Hi, change of plan, got a 2.3 Galaxy engine with 16v RS 2000 head off Ebay recently, seen dyno results of one with gsxr 750 TB's, 216 bhp at the flywheel, not sure if this is with a cat or not. Think I'll be using the 2ltr dohc sump as I have to turn the engine for rwd, will leave the sump standard until I know the engine is good, very little ground clearance though. Will be using Megasquirt, not sure about a progressive throttle linkage? Was just going to put a cable on it using the Suzuki linkage, probably a gixxer thou one so it's right at the TB end, progress has been slow due to shift pattern at work, different shifts now and the car is really coming on, complete limited slip back end on, all 6 flexi brake pipes replaced with Goodridge. Once the engine is done the only thing left is to sort out the MT75 'box, first is too low to be of any use at all, close ratio kit anyone?

Hi Chris, Sounds great. The only fly I can think of, for your ointment is the 2.3 has balance shafts built into the sump. Not a problem as the first thing that usually gets thrown away is these shafts. And it sounds like someone has been playing with this one so that might be sorted. If you want to fit the RS2000 or the Sierra sump though the sump face is slightly different where the drive to these shafts go. Have a look at this http://www.rs2000-16v.co.uk/newsitefiles/2.3.htm. I used the RS sump as the bulge is at the front more in line with the axle. But had to modify where 2 of the bolt holes where the sump bolted to the gearbox. Also calved an 1 1/4" of the bottom of the MT75 box and one of the starter motor lugs has to go. I've also managed to get an LSD, a must for one of these. Especially if your putting 216bhp through it with a car that weighs 600KG. Sounds great, good luck.

Hi BaldiGit,

sump and balance shafts all sorted, (thrown away by a previous owner), modified sump, no idea what, engine was in fwd Escort, the bloke I bought it from bought the car for his 17yr old son as his first car, so was putting in a 1300 and wanted the 2.3 out of the way, supposed to have been excellent in the Escort, the bulge is at the front of the sump and my car has a crossmember in the way so will have to change the sump, not sure if I can just turn it round? Done lots on the car today, just the handbrake cable to sort and the back end is finished, have to turn it around and start on the front, not bothered about it being done for the start of summer, just want it running better than the old 2ltr dohc on carb.

Ahh.... I thought you where doing a Zero. So yours is the original style Robin Hood 7. I'm doing a Zero, so no cross member. You might not have the height restrictions I have and get away with the std injection. I'm not sure if the Suzuki cam on the bodies is progressive enough, might give it a try before I panic. There's just a lot of hype out there where people who have bike TB's (not sure if that includes Suzuki ones) wishing they could afford JenVeys for the progressive throttle.

Having played with the sumps..... They only go on one way.... sorry :sorry:. Mind you if you where using the Sierra 8 valve DOHC, that sump will fit. As long as someone has made up that filler piece on the 2.3 block. I have had a std Sierra one on my RS2000 and it fitted. Just had to swap the blanking plug and dip stick around. But decided to use the original one in the end. Even the engine mounts should bolt straight on. The RS2000, Galaxy 2.3 and Sierra block are all based on the same casting.

I used the sierra DOHC 8v sump on my rs2000 engine, chopped it down to give more ground clearance and as Gary said you swap the blanking plug and dip stick around.

The 2.3 engine is my next project when I can find one suitable, I realy want a scorpio engine which is normally rear wheel drive and has the thermostat on the front of the engine not the rear.

Looking forward to see how things go with this.
