Hi John , I had my car virtually rewired by a electrician in Hartlepool, which was done on a work on it when he was quiet and it cost £260, obviously thats to far for you.

Whilst I was looking for a auto electrician I did find a company that finished off Kit cars and the put me in touch with there electrician who was near St Albans if I remember correctly he seemed happy to work on mine which was full of faults.

His name was Pete Gilham 07860228887, he is a bit closer and I think he has a workshop, and was willing to be competitive for the correct renumeration!

Might be worth giving him a ring.

Good luck

Steve

Hi

thanks for the info, will give him a ring, the price quoted was for 3 days of 8 hours labour @ £29.15 + vat per hour, plus 80 to pick up and deliver the car, they are based less that 8 miles from me, i am to supply all the gear, switches, connectors, the lot.

i was serprised it would take 3 days as they are a local garage that specialise in kit cars.

I will not name them yet.

cheers

Please don't think I'm being rude, but why can't you do it yourself? I had an old pinto loom made by Autosparks given to me without instructions, and I have it now fully connected to a zetec engine. There were a few wires that weren't needed and there were a few the were added to it. The hardest thing was wiring up the stalks as I wasn't sure which Ford they were from and with help from several guys on here via personal visits and long telephone conversations, we got there in the end.

Running the loom is simple, start off with laying it out on the floor, and either using a sheet of cardboard or A4 sheets selotaped together, draw out a plan of your car and with a small amount of deduction and no doubt some guessing, you will find out which wire does what. Confirm using a suitable Haynes manual schematic wiring diagram (differeing colours on new loom isn't a prob because all you are doing is sussing out what goes where)and a multimeter, and it's just a process of ellimination. Once you have sussed out which wire does what, label it with masking tape.

Get a colour code for the loom that you have. If it is a well known loom then someone on here will have used one and will have a colour code chart, or even the instructions!

Keep your money for other goodies, sit down and think about what is needed and what isn't, and do it yourself. The worst you'll do is blow a few fuses. I hate wiring, but believe me, you can do it. It really isn't rocket science to wire up a basic car like ours. GO FOR IT!!!!!!! :drinks:
