build quality, check over and make sure it looks tidy, , you want a wishbone front end realy, if its got zimmeride coilovers, budget for another 300 quid to fit proper dampers, weather gear is always a plus,

everyoe is diferent, and would check over a few before deciding,

Make sure the V5 is correct and not still a Ford and should read :- Make - Robin Hood and Body Type - Sports or Sports 2 seat - This is about as important as the condition as to get it correctly registered will cost allot of cash and you may have problems getting it MOT'd as it will come up on the testers computer as the wrong car

You can have a stainless or mild steel chassis, stainless or mild steel body panels, Wishbone, Mini McPherson struts or Sliding Pillars (sliding pillocks the way most people manage to set them up). The wishboned 2Bs have a design fault, the wishbones should diverge by 15 deg as they leave the body an head towards the wheel, most don't, correctable but work needed, so the McPherson is a good option and is rally proven, but it is your choice and again what is available at the time of purchase. I have the 2B/4 McPhersons and no longer dream of wishbones after talking to a McClaren engineer

Build quality, build quality, build quality. Take a look at the wiring, the brake and fuel pipes, these should be fixed every 300mm to the chassis or other bodywork, not stuck on clips.

Stay clear of projects and nearly completed, nearly completed means just started even though it looks well on the way, We know many such cars have had to be stripped and restarted.

The Pinto is bullet proof, let it stand for 30 minutes and then start it. Blue smoke for a short while will tell you the valve stem oil seals are warn but easy to replace.

So not a lot of big problems.

The grin factor of driving one will give make your cheeks ache. The club is fantastic with many outings and some include beer. What else could you want?

looking at the car today and bought the car, the car broke down on the test run but my friend being a carb specialist who owns a rolling road and quickly got it fixed. the butterfly was sticking on the choke so we removed it as a temp measure. going to end up on 45s soon anyway :D

ill post up pics tomorrow when i have time

did a search about externals covers on the forum, can anyone recommend any apart from a caterham one from hamilton for £145

OK so it's a 2B with sliding pillars. I can't quite see the two vertical tubes between the tunnel top and scuttle well enough to be certain but they look to be parallel and vertical which would suggest it's one of the first batch. Check this as it can be useful to know just what you've got.

A fair amount of rusty staining around the passenger side of the engine bay suggests overheating problems in the past. That's OK so long as the problems really are in the past - make sure the temp gauge reads true and keep an eye on it whilst gettting to know the car.

I can't say I'm a fan of the routing of the clutch cable. In the Sierra they had a habit of dying because of the heat and that's when they went around the exhaust manifold. Yours does seem to be wrapped in something presumably heat proofing related but it's run through the exhaust. I think I'd be looking at wrapping the exhaust as far as the side panel anyway (keeps underbonnet temps down) so that will help extend it's life but there are also longer cables available that may mean you can route it furthr away from the exhaust (Cosworth/Transit from memory).

Not trying to pick holes but forewarned is forearmed and means you are less likely to have it strand you somewhere leaving you annoyed with it where a bit of tinkering could make it more reliable and let you enjoy it more.

constructive critisim is welcome :) im very happy with it. im going to enjoy it for the year, put some twin webbers on it and get it set up by my friend who has a tuning company and rolling road.

next winter plan is a zetec and maybe new paint. when zetec goes in it will have anything such as wiring, clutch cable locations etc sorted :)

ill look into what you said on saturday after i picked it up.

any idea of covers

It looks like you have the 15" Aray wheels. Check inside the wheel for clearance against the small nut at the bottom of the shiny rod/pillar that the hub slides on. there is a definite possibility of contact....IIRC its worse with 14" wheels, the 15s should be better. Just be aware they can touch when cornering hard if the spring have settled.

Come back for more info once you have the car.

Cheers, Bob

Hi Jeano,

It looks very nice. It looks like a sliding pillar not a 2b/4, photo not showing the detail required. Sorry you cant fit coilovers to a sliding Pillar, first you have to cut the pillars off and weld wishbones on. As I said Sliding pillars are not the best but Morgan do use them so they can't be all that bad.

As IB says, may need to move the clutch cable sooner rather than later, they do cook and the clutch becomes jumpy.

Where are you?

Club Menbership is £15 or £16 via Paypa look on here. Club member*bleep* gets an insurance discount of more than the membership cost, all of the companies advertise on here, Adrian Flux do recovery including Europe for an extra £60 or £67 if taken out later.

Get yourself along to the area meets and to Stonleigh camping for the weekend @ the national kit car show 1st weekend in May, show Sunday and Monday camp Saturday and Sunday nights with 80 + others and some 150 RH cars on show.

Breakdown cover im cancelling my RAC and going with ADAC as there breakdown cover is around £50, its not only european breakdown but also includes free recovery on the ring which otherwise would cost £400. I'm out there about 2-4 a day.
