Nose Cone Stay

How have you guys who have fitted hinges to the nose cone fitted a stay to stop the thing dropping to the road when opened or didn`t you bother???

I used (weakened) gas rams - possibly a little OTT but they were lying around in the garage

I use plastic covered springy wire, net curtain stuff. When the hinge broke on the A1 I discovered that it stretches a long way! Luckily it was raining so I had a roof on the nose went over the screen and was sitting on the spare wheel still attached to the car by the wires
