Help Needed Still No Power

Basics

Fuel, disconnect pipe at carbs and check it flows

Spark, take spark plug out put in lead lay on exhaust check spark

Spay cold start down carbs as you crank, does it fire? If so carb issue.

Even if ignition timing was out it would splutter a bit

If cam timing out it would back fire

Do check rocker gaps

As bike carbs are individual usually one or more will deliver mixture.

Check ECU fuse

If you have EDIS check fuse/ power supply

EDIS will run engine without ecu at 10 degrees advanced (limp home)

I did a few checks and there was no noises when the engine was not under load.

i took it down the street and it sounded like there was a tool box in my sump so im going to strip it down at the weekend

Iv had a problem with my pinto with no power and coughing. Found out that the intake gasket was torn as water was gettin mixed with the fuel.

After stripping down the bottom end and removing the shells i think i am going to need a new crank due to the heavy scoring so if any body has one let me know

Yep, got one in my scored 2.1 block

The crank looks fine but I have 2 scored bores in the block and at 93mm already I can't risk another rebore, I'm in Essex if you are close enough and make a reasonable offer, have a look and take it away.

I did the 2.1 conversion and I don't think it's worth it. You also end up spending a fortune on 2.1 head gaskets (£40 is about the cheapes and it's rubbish). The gasket on mine (cometic) cost £130.

Talking to my rolling road man the other week, he also said that there is not a great deal of bhp to be gained from an over-bore.....however increasing the crank throw has a much greater effect......but a hell of a lot more money!!

imho either buy a zetec or if you're sticking with the pinto, concentrate on things like the cylinder head (bigger valves etc...), ignition (megajolt), carbs etc....

Have you checked to see if you have a blocked exhaust. Sounds strange, but had this with the wifes car. I checked everything I could think of with no success. Gave it to the local garage and they discovered the back box was blocked.

I'm sorry to say this but I don't think so. Last time I blew up an engine I had been thinking how well and freely it had been running for the last few miles. Then there was a bang and a rod through the side. OK I haven't blown many so my experience on this is limited. While your engine is away I think you should continue your search for the problem which caused your sudden loss of power. Full strip of fuel system and clean. Check rate of pump delivery. Go over the ignition to test for voltages at all testable points.
