Donington Kit Car Show

as are my nostrils!

nobody has mentioned the synchronised spinning yet! Did anyone else get to see the autotesters? At one point there were 4 of them spinning around a single traffic cone, with a cloud of smoke coming from their rear tyres. They weren't perfect, which added to the humour, but it was an amazing sight.

What about the impromptu fireworks?

HAY I enjoyed it, didn't like the burger van food or the £2.20 for a coffee or even the gaseous emissions from a club member ( never knew that it was possible to smell in colour) or dreaming I was a sheep farmer in new south Wales .

The final STRAW was the couple of new things they put on like kit car taxi rides, the autotest driving display and free access to view the racing.

Looks like they are trying and should be better next year.

Hi All just got back fron Donny a 280ml round trip, and have read some of the comments,So as this was the second Kit car show of my modern era the following comes to mind.

Firstly thanks to Phil and all the members who gave up there time to organise the shelter and the refreshments .

I am a member of a club which unlike most clubs is spread all over the country,so people in the middle of the country are more likely to know each other than members from

further afield not allways true but if we all agreed all the time we would have the answer to world peace.

I have found that if you arrive and just talk to the members they will respond they may take the **** but they will open their hearts and admit the mistakes they made when

building their own kits,in doing this they may save you hundreds of pounds on your car. how many people do you know who would do that for free?.

All in all a good first attempt by the new crew to organise a show in the current climate, would you put your money on the line lie that?,improvements to be made so mail the

the organisers who will be glad of the input as it may save them money a get more punters in next year good for all of us.

All kit car shows will be much the same, but reason to go is to look at the cars of others, and feel the warmth of welcome from a bunch of loonies but that is what a club is all

about and what makes the trip worthwhile sorry so I missed some of the members I met at Newark but I am sure we will met next year.

So I am sure we will all meet next year and rember just get INVOLVED and be ROCAR MEMBER!!!

PS lots of upset sheep up north.

I do see what people are saying about not being negative but i do also appreciate the honesty (thats what this forum is about). I was one that did not go today due to the comments made.

I had a choice of building the daughters swing/den or going the show. As it seemed poor (from comments read not just on this forum) i chose the swing (daughter very happy) I would have been dissapointed if not told it was poor. I dont think i would have been dissapointed by the RH club or members.

I spend a lot of time in the garage building (mostly when girls gone to bed) but the weekends is a time i set aside for family. If it was reported as great i would have sacrificed this time to go. As it wasnt, although i wanted to come and meet members and see a few cars, i dont have time to come, pay and make up the numbers for them to "get it right"

I know it was the first show, but it seems from what i have read they were still charging the same price for established shows (camping, stall holders and tickets). If they want it to be a success they have to entice traders in with better offers. They can profit once its known to be a good show, as stall holders will be happy to pay the cover costs. They could have charged the stall holders nothing or reduced cover for the first one and had the place filled with bouncy castles and rides, bricka brack, tool stands and other etc. I dont think they have never been to another show and taken notes on what has worked before.

In regards to comments about the internet and forums stopping people from going or ruining the show, yes i agree but equally they get a lot of free advertising and support from forums like this that encourage people to go in the first place.

Glad to hear the RH guys made a great effort, as always.

Having spoken to Ian and Justin at the end of the show I can tell you that making a profit at the first show is not what they are after. The show cost £50000 to stage it cost £3000 just for the carpet in the show hall. Camping was not going to be allowed by donnington but they did give in to it, may be because super bikes are there next weekend. Also camping area was smaller then agreed with ckc should of been the whole strip down to the gates where the diggers and plant were.

Just a bit of feed back from the other side to help people put things in context

Donny was good & hopefully will become great in the future.

It would have been a one day show (similar to Exeter) except for the following:-

Free entry to the race meeting

The auto test idiots/specialists

The kit car taxis including the Dragon Electric Seven

The Donington Grand Prix Museum at half price (or less for OAP's)

Camping crew & music by John "Shadows" Dickens

The club area for us to display/chat

The food was dear from the vans --- you could have brought your own or used the museum restaurant ( meal & drink £7.50)

We enjoyed ourselves & didn't get to go round it all a second time;the costs as detailed by Phil are a fortune;how many of us went on the off-chance & only if the weather was kind; I think the CKC crew stuck their neck out far enough for a first event; next year will be better & we will be attending.

For those of you that go to a show on a Saturday then come home and post on here that it was not up to your expectations. How the hell do you think the show organizers are ever going to build a show when you bunch of idiots are putting people off going on the Sunday. this is the firs show put on by the magazine and I think they did a fantastic job, yes there were short falls but auto jumble ETC is thing that they want to bring to the show. Stoneleigh is a long established show and was built up over a number of years, this was done when there was no internet so a few short sighted idiots could not help to bring a show to its knees over a short period by posting on forums like this. Instead of posting negatives why not post the positives or better still not at all.

Well for one short sighted idiot that attended the show and said what I saw along with others that felt of the same opinion then I am sorry that your attitude to us as members should be so negative. We all have attended shows in the past and enjoyed them. Yes I may have had bigger expectations than what I found and for the first show by the organizers it was ok. As I stated in my first post.

'Best part was the club stand had a good chat to a couple of members and brought an alternator bracket from one. Well done club stand good support from all members attending'.

well we enjoyed ourselfs, Amy went around looking for the quiz answers kept us busy for a few hrs, , we paid £45 for whole family to get in and camp, and if we came in a kit and a tintop would have been 25 quid but the libra not on road yet, ( wayway cheaper than stoneligh which cost Jen 40 on her own in tintop !!) could have been more stalls inside , but you cant make traders come to a new show if they dont want to, s j motors did comment the hall was a bit sparce of traders on friday when he was setting up, but on sunday did say they had had a decent weekend,

with the track action made the show a gud un, bit like Oulton park show the other week, was just a car show with few stands for the ladies and kids, but on the sat , full race meet, makes the show better than a shopping trip ,

gets my thumbs up , even just seeing dans face when presented with all thos chrisp 50 quid notes, and mine when gut said he had 20's if he didnt like 50 !!!!!! oh what fun

Last show of the year, was sunny and good laughs, think it ends on a high for me

for those who enjoyed these, they were the reaons I couldn't camp over at donnington becasue of a family party at Catton Hall where the firewroks were being set-off from.

It was called the festival of fireworks 2012, and basically it's 5 international companies who are carrying out a "dress-rehersal" for the world fireworks championships later on in the year. Flipping amazing! They were the best fireworks I've seen in my life and the choregraphy / timing with the music was a must see to believe!
