Savage Hazard Switch - Gbs Loom

Ok, next probably quite simple question of the day......

I'm trying to wire in savage style hazard switch into the GBS loom using the auxiliary sockets but so far the closest I've got so far is blowing

the hazards fuse!

So using the GBS pdf, could anyone tell me which contacts match up to the savage switch. I've attached all the pdfs I've been using.

1 green side light

2 red (1mm) rear fog

3 brown auxiliary switch ground

4 red (0.5mm) auxiliary hazard switch +

5 yellow flash relay signal

6 blue left turn

7 violet right turn

8 red (0.5mm) auxiliary hazard switch 12v out

9 grey spare 12v feed

10 yellow dip beam signal

11 orange horn switch (to ground)

I'm disappointed as my horn, starter and rear fog savage switches all work as planned!

Sorry, can't help as I am using the old Sierra column hazard switch, not the savage version. Hopefully Knights Templar may be along in a while as he seems to have a prety good handle on these things.

that's confusing

you will have to test it, but try this

GBS pin 4 to savage pin 1

savage pin 2 to GBS pin 8

think that bypasses the ignition feed to the flasher relay

GBS pin 5 to savage pin 1a

savage pin 2a through diode to GBS pin 6

savage pin 2a through diode to GBS pin 7

savage have two switches operated by one button, two banks (a & b )marked 1,2 & 3.

warning light

GBS pin 6 (after diode) to LED +

LED - to GBS pin 3

you will have to choose the diodes wisely as they will have to power two 21 watt bulbs and the repeater LED, would have to investigate that

David S just popped up whilst typing, not had this query before, so may be next to useless, until more thought given.

had a thought, funny what you think about being dragged around food shopping.

warning light will work wired that way but also on ordinary indicators, so no good.

also faff with diodes makes it awkward.

problem

to switch power to the flasher unit when the ignition is off

keep left and right isolated for normal use and join together for hazards

power the warning light without effecting circuits

Ford hazard switch does this by switching four contacts, one switches the flasher relay on, two and three connect the output from the flasher unit to the left and right flasher circuits and the fourth connects the warning light.

have found a diagram that will work,

http://locostbuilders.co.uk/photos.php?action=showphoto&photo=Savage%20Hazard%20Switch%20and%20Indicator%20Wiring%20Diagram%20with%20Diode.jpg

but you will have to have the flasher unit permanently live, not a problem except your flashers will work at all times.

wire as above and connect GBS pins 4 & 8 together.

or you could replicate the four switches using a four pole relay

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/relay-sockets/0329890/

using lower diagram

GBS pin 4 to relay pin 9

relay pin 5 to GBS pin 8

switches on flasher unit

GBS pin 5 to relay pins 10, 11 & 12

relay pin 6 to GBS pin 6

relay pin 7 to GBS pin 7

relay pin 8 to warning light -

warning light + to relay pin 5

which ever way you chose, even Hammy's, let us know, if it works, as this is untried and untested

Got some time out on the car today, the good news is that my savage switch is in and working as it should!

Thanks to Knights_Templar for your help, the locost diagram and the responses helped get me thinking, attached is my solution with the GBS loom terminals.

Essentially, joined 4 & 8 together, 5 to both savage 2 terminals, 6 & 7 to both savage 1 terminals, link one of the 1s to the LED + and LED - to ground. Stick a diode on whichever indicator connection you use for the link to the LED, picute probably makes more sense, the idea being you don't want the led to flash when just indicating left (or right).

Good result to what seems like a horrible problem!

glad to be of some help.

you haven,t mentioned the diode, so doesn’t the hazard warning light operate when you use indicators one side?

Just edited to include the diode, already on the car but knew I'd forget something when posting here!
