Evidence Of The Age Of An Engine In A Super Spec

Hi,

In the IVA 1 Guidance Notes (V8.0 April 2012) it says "Evidence of the date of manufacture of the engine will be required at the time of inspection to determine the emission limits for the vehicle. "

What are they expecting? I believe it is a 1994 engine because the number '94' (with other marks) is stamped on the top of the thermostat housing and experience with Rover engines from the same period convinces me that the number on the thermostat does reflect the date of manufacture but thats not proof.

Is it possible to tell the date of manufacture from the engine number '20T4HH85 108485', the 20T means (afaik) a 2ltr T series but what do the other characters mean - is there a date indicator?

What have other Super Spec owners done when asked for evidence of the age of the engine?

Regards,

John.

they usually expect the log book of the donor vehicle of the engine.

but have seen proof by way of a letter from the manufacturers stating that engine age, and therefore emissions allowed.

heard of a rover engined super spec that met current regs OK and ended up on a new 2012 plate. belonged to Al Milton who freqence this site, he may be able to advise
