Shall I Buy One.......

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am considering buying a pre built superspec 2.0l rover T matched with an MT75.

I have wanted one since I was 18 and finally have the chance.

Trouble is I'm having a crisis of confidence, the one I've found although otherwise good has a tendancy to pop out of 4th gear if the lever is not held firmly back. The seller says not really a problem....but he would.

I have read the various trails regarding making sure the gear tunnel is not restricted etc so would look to try this first.

The question is therefore shall I do the deal?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ask the seller if it can be driven (with you as passenger) with the tunnel top removed;will settle any body foul issues.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am worried asking him to take the tunnel hood off may be a step too far for the seller, is there much involved to remove it for a test drive, i.e. would i take long to do (having nto owned one yet I have no idea of what to do at present)?

Any hints and tips on how to do it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Most will be screwed on, ours is held by velcro. (Other fixing methods are available)

There were issues with the original Robin Hood Engineering produced gear lever extensions, later GBS ones are fine.

I would suspect its one of the bars broken at the weld and moving the lever linkage about.

The Rover T series was mated with a left hand drive V6 MT75 with the bellhousing modified to take the Rover starter motor, the bell housing is built into the main body of the gearbox, if the gearbox is the issue it's a complicated fix.

GBS do have spare LHD V6 MT75 but they are expensive.

If the seller is genuinely after a sale, then he'll be happy to run with the the tunnel top removed.

The top is easy to remove, it was originally designed to be a lift off part, but as Bob says, some may be screwed in so should be a 5 min job at most to remove.

If they are reluctant to remove it, then this could be to hide something, buyer beware!!

There are known build quality issues with the original linkage as Snapperpaul says, I had one and it was a crock of poo! Changed it for the GBS remote linkage which was a huge difference!!

My Superspec did for a while jump out of fourth gear - it has the proper Ford gear llnkage which I intend to change to the quickshift type.

I have read on a previous post that this problem was cured by replacing the detent spring - dont ask me what that is because I don't precisely know - I would have a guess it after looking at the schematics of the gearbox on super7thheaven that it is the spring on the internal selection assembly.

Check that the clutch has been modified - there wern't too many that haven't given trouble.

Apart from the aforementioned problems I love the car, 136bhp and goes like stink - this can be increased by changing the ECU to an Emerald.

Thanks for the feedback/comments.
