Trying to figure out how my MeV got an 11 plate what are the rules? Second hand engine (bike)and diff new everything else I thought it was 1 recon component ? How does it work for Bike engine cars...

what age is engine and gearbox? Wouldn't be surprised if it was off an 11 plate bike to begin with, some don't be on the road long before they get written off... Plus bloke didn't waste any time getting it built

I thought if you had a reciept to say a unit had been reconned back to new this was also classed as a new component

As I understand the rules, and I'm prepared to be shot down in flames, there are 5 main components to a car, namely body, chassis, engine, gearbox and drive axle, for a new reg 4 have to be new and the fifth either new or reconditioned to as new condition, I read somewhere a while back that a builder wanted a new reg with a bike engined car but the engine/'box were secondhand, he argued that they were one unit but DVLA said no. In one of the kitcar mags a couple of years ago Nigel Dean built a Dax Rush and everything was new except the diff which was reconditioned to get the new reg.

As alfaGTA says, it may well be an age related plate if the bike was written off while still quite new.

Engine is from a 2005 r1 diff is a reconditioned freelander

Yes it Was, the mx5 had the wrong ratio so he built it round the free lander diff Instead needed a 3.38 the Mazda was only 3.65....

Just a thought Dan, is the engine number genuine?

I.E., has it been 'changed' or is a newer number??
