Update;

The spacer to locate the clutch slave cylinder worked a treat.

With help from Dan, we dropped the engine into the car to have a look how to do the engine mounts. It's tight getting it in with the gearbox attached but it just goes in.

Next job is to pull it back out again and work in the engine bay sorting out the mounts.

Engine Mounts;

Firstly I'm going to start off by saying that I know that this solution is probably overkill...but I'd rather overkill it than underkill it and end up twisting the chassis etc...under the torque of the v8.

1) This is how the engine bay looks with the original exmo mounts for the pinto engine.

2) The first job is to cut these out with Mr. angry-grinder. I also had cut away some of the floor away for sump clearence

3) Next I ran 4 peices of 3mm wall box section (2 per side) down the length of the engine bay and bolted them to the floor. For the sake of this diary I'm calling these "engine-rails" I welded the two peices of box together for added strength. NOTE: some nice square washers will be making there way from my dads workshop to use either side of each bolt!

4) Then I cut out my engine mount brackets from some nice thick bright mild. To get these in the right location, I bolted them onto the engine, dropped the engine back into the engine bay, got everything level & centred and then tack welded the brackets onto the engine-rails

5) I whipped the engine back out, and fully welded the brackets onto the rails and added some angles at the ends of the rails for additional strength.

and there we have it...engine in back in and all bolted up to the back wheels. Off to the exhaust place in a week or so time to get the manifolds welded up (I'm going to leave this job to the experienced).

Car is booked in for the exhaust header fabrication with PD Gough in Nottingham. http://www.pdgough.com/

I'm Dropping the car off on Tueday the 8th and collecting on Friday 11th. I'm supplying the side pipes, 4-1 merge collectors and exhaust flanges and they are mounting the side pipes and fabricating the headers.

The chap has been really helpful so far and I've seen his work on other 7's which they look really nice, and he informs me he's done a couble of RH's !

Looking forward to seeing the results, however the "engine-fund" will be somewhat lighter after next week!!

I came within a nats-knacker of making these myself. I priced it up at over £300 in stainless plus there is the welding gas needed! I would have loved to have been able to say "i did that" but in this case, I'm taking a step back and letting someone with years of experience do a good job (hopefully).

The floor is made up of 2 different sections. I've left the "strong section" in and removed what was left of the floor as possible.

The strong sections are basically folded channels that give the mono chassis some strength at the bottom. The box section I've added lays on top of this but doesn't really add that much to this strength to the chassis, but spreads the engine load through the strongest points of the car.

By the time it's done, I'll be in traction engine territory!!!

P.D Gough.......... been there once myself, really good place but be warned there is pure stainless pornography on every bench!!!!!!!!!!!!! I walked in with a silencer and felt ashamed to produce it :sorry: They are about 10 minutes walking distance from my house so I shall follow this with interest as I may require their services soon.

Well the exmo is now at PD Gough's having it's exhausts made. The guys there really know their stuff and I'm confident that they'll do a good job.

I had a tour of the factory which is really impressive...and so much stainless everywhere! They make everything from classics to supercars. I saw everything from Lambo & ferrari exhausts to some strange car from the war! They have even quoted my dad £60 for a new Chimney for Kingfisher so more work will be coming there way!!!

I collect the car on Friday so watch this space for the photos.

On a side note, having to trailer the car force me to finish off all the little bits such as new tyres, wiring plugs etc...I'm dead please how well it towed with the car on it. The only two snags are a loose bulb in one of my marker lights and I need a new damper in the tow hitch because the one on it at the moment it old and too soft.
