Halfords Trade Card

I had to get a few service parts for my lad's car over xmas and halfords was the only place open. So, I enquired about getting a trade card after hearing about the discounts available from so many people. I explained I was not in the trade but a member of a couple of car clubs, of whom many members had got trade cards just by proving their membership. I was politely told that I didn't tick the right boxes on their criteria for a card so I had to pay full whack. Any chance that we as a club could approach them and try to get an agreement on trade cards? Bri

I think it depends on the approach and mentality of the store Manager.

When I got my trade card, I asked the parts manager for some cutting fluid. He asked what I was drilling (stainless and loads of it!).

This led the conversation to building my kit so I enquired what I have to do for a trade card.

There are criteria, however these were 'discussed and agreed' (as in my case), and the card was issued there and then.

So a lot of it depends on whether you have a person as the manager or corporate automaton.

Looks like I had to jump through hoops for mine then, had to take in all my City & Guilds certificates and a recent payslip to prove I was working as a mechanic, the discount is very good on filters, wipers, bulbs and any Halfords products though.

Got some ten quid windscreen wipers the other day for less than £2. So there are some amazing deals but only on a few things, and sometimes not at all.

But its a nice surprise when you do.

I had to show my business card to get a trade account. It was a 2008 RHOCAR membership card :db: :db: :db:

The application form has a box asking for reason for issuing card - one of them is "at the managers discretion" which seems to be how people who aren't earning a living from the spanners get them.

We have one, and as said it gives a worthwhile discount off Halfrauds prices- good for tin top batteries etc and is very handy on Sunday afternoons when everywhere else is shut and your car is in 67 pieces, it is worth asking again and again and especially when the young dolly bird is manning the shop, they seem to have fewer scruples than the grumpy old blokes and just want to sell stuff.

Good luck
