Non Servo Master Cylinder - Who's Used What

I'm currently in the process of a zetec in my S7, and need to do away with the servo for space issues.

 

Who's done away with their servo, and what master cylinder have you used in its place. I intend to use the existing sierra pedals. I know of one user who's altered the fulcrum point on his pedal shaft, and have heard of another using a land rover master cylinder.

 

Any advice will be useful.

Westfield MC for me, moved in board, still using the sierra pedals but in a homemade box.

There are a couple of caterham mc's on ebay at the moment which are pretty much the same thing

Hi Simon

When I did my conversion from pinto to zetec in my s7 It was tight for space between the master cylinder and my bike carbs in fact sometimes they rubbed and that was using remote resevoirs. I thought this was too dangerous so eventually fitted a floor mounted pedal box .

The most important thing if getting rid of the servo is the bore of the master cylinder. One that is 17mm will be about right and the other thing to get spot on is the angle relative to the pedal. The caterham mc is 17mm and so are early fiesta and polo's. Lengthening the pedal can also be useful.

obviously there's umpteen options, one thing is deciding what pedal feel you want.if i recall correctly cyclinders that were made to be married to a servo have larger bore sizes and therefore the pedal travel is shorter but more 'leg effort' is required. again from memory a sierra/mondeo MC has something like 22/24mm bore whereas an escort mk1/2 ( non servo) will be about 17mm.

so assuming a like for like set up/trial - a 17mm would give longer pedal travel and teh mc would exert more pressure, whereas the larger will do teh opposite. you can always dial a bit of pressure out of the rears with a compensating valve if needed.
