It normally comes from the Ecu, the emerald has a gear shift table that can be configured with a gear shift output wire that im assuming can power a bulb or an LED, ive not done it but would also be interested to know how to do it

Shift lights usualy take a feed off the tacho but could run off the EDIS tacho feed

You can use Zener diods to get a feed from the coil pack

Old ignitions feed off the coil

You can't just wire a bulb in you'll need a shift light system

Megajolt feeds from the ECU and can run individual shift lights at user set revs

If I recall correctly, I think that emerald switches an earth within the ECU at your desired rev point which completes the circuit to your lamp. I have set one of my maps to light the lamp just before i hit the scary power bit and i switch to this in the wet to remind me to short shift and save me filling my pants!!

Can't comment on owt else.
