I would use the 2.0L dizzy on the 2.0L engine

Weights are slightly different

Make sure engine is on compression stroke ( both valves closed) No.1 cylinder

Rotor arm should point to No.1 spark plug lead in the cap

  • 4 weeks later...

Piston 1 at TDC

Both inlet and exhaust valve closed on cylinder 1

Then set as diagram

Turn I've gently using a spanner on crank bolt to check clearance

Re set as diagram

Cam rotates at half crank speed so takes two crank rotations to get cam back to correct position

Set distributor as diagram

Fire up

Use strobe to check ignition

Adjust distributor so strobe reads 8 to 12 degrees on the crankshaft auxilary pully

This diagram show the relationship with the engine timing marks and the TDC pointer

Turning the distributor will change the point the spark fires and therefore the strobe flash illuminating the pointer and the cut mark for the desired idle ignition timing

Some tippex or white pair helps

better explanation needed...as long as the cam and crank are properly aligned the pulley for the dizzy doesn't matter.what does matter is that at tdc the dizzy point at no1.

you can remove the dizzy spinb it to the correct place then drop it back in.
