Half Hood

Recommended Posts

Was out in the car the other day and it started to rain so I fitted the roof before heading home. It was a right PITA to fit and it started me thinking about a half hood.

I have a couple of feelers out with Soft Bits For Sevens and also Lesley Storr Designs to have one made but Richyb's hard top thread has sort of inspired me to have a go at making one myself. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson ... "How hard can it be?".

Anyone have any experience with either SBFS or LSD or even making a half hood themselves?

Having mine made by soft bits for 7's.

They seem a bit slow....but will wait to see the end result as mine is a 1st off. Fingers crossed it's ready for Stoneleigh. I'm fortunate that mine has the Westie screen and uses the Westie weather strip to fit to the screen. Pretty simple and attaches with 3 poppers.

the front of the hood has a cord sewn into it and it slides along a aluminium rail that has been attached to the top of the screen therefore no rain coming through between the poppers and is a solid fix no chance of blowing off like poppers ? in high winds

Thanks for the replies guys. I found another thread on locostbuilders about making my own. It would cost about £40 for materials so it might be an option if I don't get any joy out of SBFS or LSD.

SBFS seem make good stuff as long as you are prepared to wait.

The other thought is where do the Zero windscreens come from? They look the same the Westfield ones and the Caterham ones. If they are the same, I could buy an off the shelf one and adapt it. Just thinking out of the box.
