1.8 Zetec Silvertop Shopping List

Hi guys looking for a heads up for a pal converting from a 1.6 pinto to a silvertop. so a shopping list is required I will start it of with the things I think is required,

 

Spigot bearing

release bearing CT133

can use zetec clutch and flywheel

EDIS unit

starter motor Lucas 707

water rail

alternator and bracket

shortened sump

 

can anybody think of anything else and is there off the shelf engine mounts or plans for them available

If your mate must have a 1.8 over the 2.0 then he should hunt down the 130bhp version found in the escort gti.... Comes with a flat bottomed ali sump and metal pick up pipe, same cam's as the 2.0, same inlet/outlet port size and valve size as the 2.0 version... He'll need an ecu of some sort to provide the sparks and an some form of getting the fuel and air to mix into the engine and exhaust. There are several kitcar companies offering engine mounts so it depends on the chassis

He was going for a 2 litre but I managed to get a hold of an escort GTI 1.8 for £60 to good a bargain to miss so there's only 5bhp less than a standard blacktop 2 litre zetec.

The edis unit provides the spark and he will be using bike carbs so will need a fuel pump

There are lots of other bits that will be needed. Most will depend on the kit that he has.

I recently converted my 1600 pinto Zero to 2.0 blacktop.

Here is some items, but i may have missed some:

- low pressure pump (i used a Facet off ebay)

- low pressure fuel filter

- Fuel pressure regulator(bike carbs require this)

- Some people recommend a swirl pot?

- Megajolt or equivalent( i hear Cairns do a good unit?)

- carbs and manifold, filter and cable

- Exhaust manifold and possibly silencer

- coolant hoses

- possibly a larger more efficient radiator (dependant on what is already fitted)

- bonnet

I think you covered the other bits? basically it starts off quite simple, but i found that there are a lot of additional items even after you think you are done. There will be a RR tune and possibly brakes may requiring upgrading. Maybe a geometry set up?

 

After all what is the point of the extra power unless you can put it down and the car can handle it?

the engine is going into a newly built and IVA'd 2B. I converted my S7 over a year ago from a pinto to a blacktop and im just trying to remember everything.

Lucky boy! As a side note if you have the inlet manifold check it carefully for a HO stamp.......... Zetec turbo boys love them and they fetch a premium!
